New VP8 Build of the Gottlieb game Rainbow. Designed by Wayne Neyens with art by Roy Parker, Rainbow was released in December 1956. 1,250 units were produced so this game is rare to find today. I was drawn to this game by the fact that it has only rollover lanes, no targets, kickers, etc. I wondered how interesting it would be to play. It turns out to be more interesting than I had imagined. Strategy is made interesting by the combination of double and single number lanes. I do wonder about what Parker is trying to say in the great looking artwork though. People and animals eating loco weed and hallucinating while wandering in the desert. On the playfield the prospector is tapping a large cactus for water with his pick axe.
