head-to-head

    A roundup of PN's head-to-head game collections

The IPDB lists 31 historical games designed for head-to-head play: https://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?specialty=24&sortby=name&searchtype=advanced At least seven of those have been re-created, and are hosted here: Tabletop Hockey (Munro, 1932-'33) Soccer table (foosball) (1952 Bonzini) Calcio...

    VP8 Rat Race (Williams, 1983) 1.0

Pretty amazing table, heavily inspired by the classic wooden tilting maze games. Also one of those fairly rare, solid state, non-redemption flipperless games. Unfortunately it never went in to production, but thankfully, we have VP. This version by TomB, Gaston, and Destruk. Notes: After...

    VP8 AntiGrav Pinball v1.6 2020-01-28

While it's difficult to pick any one Jeff Block table as representative of @Freezezzy's total body of work, I like the way this game turns VP on its head, so to speak, by removing gravity and creating a four-player, eight-flippered experience. This might not be the most landbreaking game ever...

    VP8 NASBAL_Slot_Car_Racing_-_v1.01p 2020-01-28

A fun little multiplayer game that will test your reactions and endurance! When a player's ball reaches the end of a segment, they must hit their "continue button" as quickly as possible. Too fast, and it won't count. Too slow, and they'll lose time against the other competitors. A standard...

    VP8 PinAirHockey 2020-01-28

This is a pretty darn effective version of flippered air hockey you can play against the computer! The author (druadic) suggests himself that this table would make the basis of a more articulated version, and he kindly grants those rights in the table info. Enjoy. [notes by Ike Savage]

    VP8 Paris 2005 2020-01-28

Quite a clever, two-player soccer game! What makes this really interesting is that a player's flippers will jump around the screen, tracking the movement of the ball. I'd completely forgotten something like that was possible in VP, but it is! --@Ike Savage

VP8 Tabletop Hockey (Munro, 1932-'33) by Freewheel (VP author) 2020-01-28

The earliest type of these mechanical hockey games was built by Donald H. Munro, Sr. in his Toronto home in 1932-33. Made of wood and scrap metal found in his neighborhood, Munro built his first game as a Christmas present for his children at a time when he could not afford to buy gifts. Soon...

    VP8 Soccer table (foosball) (1952 Bonzini) 2020-01-28

This is a fun, cleverly-made, two-player table-soccer game! I.e., "foosball" for American audiences. Note: you might want to go in to the script to reconfigure the keys to your liking. (text by @Ike Savage)

    VP8 Joust (Williams, 1983) 2020-01-28

A rare two-player, head-to-head game. After loading the game the first time, reset it once (F3 key) to go in to play mode. Get the ROM here. Notes: This particular table seems to have been remade only one other time, in standard (non head-to-head) perspective. Therefore, if someone wanted to...

where is the unapprove option, anyway? is that a super mod thing or something from the admin panel?
    Quote
  • @ Ike Savage:
    oh wait, I see it
    Quote
  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
true, but they could also be invisible to users and perhaps allow the category to be removed
    Quote
  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
Don't know, do know that if you delete a category all files would also be removed so that's bad,
    Quote
  • @ Ike Savage:
seems like we discussed it in some length at one point and came up with the current arrangement, but I don't have a strong opinion on that stuff. the one thing I do like is that I can clear out weaker tables from the main section without deleting them
    Quote
  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
Sounds fine to me Ike, can't disagree with ya!
    Quote
  • @ Ike Savage:
is it that you want to declutter more of the resources section?
    Quote
  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
    No it's fine
    Quote
  • @ Ike Savage:
also, just to be clear-- the issue with "unapprove" is that you don't know if the table actually gets deleted from the server, right? AFAIK I have no way of seeing where the tables actually lie on the server, so it's something I can't test effectively
    Quote
  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
They wouldn't get deleted from the server, I don't think.

  • @ JonPurpleHaze:

  • @ AnonTet:
Hi guys, I«m asking here as it might have a quicker response. How can I check the ball size used by authors in FP? or at least the default size if anyone knows. Thanks
    Quote
  • @ Gimli:
Most FP authors use the default size and don't know how to use BAM to alter it.
    Quote
  • @ Gimli:
I think it may be 13.8 though
    Quote
  • @ AnonTet:
Thanks. But while I've waited I've looked at a ring around a ramp in LotR that's 26mm so i figure the ball being 24mm. A bit short of real life ball size if that's so.
    Quote
  • @ AnonTet:
of course I could've used my brains earlier and create a table with some carefully spaced guides and check that the ball is in fact 27mm in diameter. Peeking at fp.exe and bam.dll and there's no way to change this. you can set the colour and the id to track it though (but that's known)
    Quote
  • @ Gimli:
With Bam custom ball coding you can create balls of any size...see my titorial
