Phoenixx, are you seriously going to start closing threads at PN?

Move the thread to the Soapbox and reopen it.

Your Post below.

Pinball Nirvana Forums - View Single Post - Do you still feel comfortable? I don't!

Your post boldly reprinted below.

O.K., thats the straw.

Yogiholzer has openend this thread because he thought he feels 'uncomfortable'. This 'uncomfortabiliy' seemed to vanish rather quickly once i came into the thread. From that point forward it was all about making me uncomfortable, even though i have answered his concerns in a manner that should have left no doubt that his assumptions are wrong.

And that is why i will end this sorry charade now. Neither do i have any general antipathies against anyone nor did i edit any insults out of my posts. This is a blatant lie and i will no longer be slandered and insulted here.

Yes, too bad in deed, but the show is over. Im sorry i didnt provide the amusement you (an no doubt certain others) have hoped for.

Thread closed in accordance with the thread starter. Do not start any new threads on this subject.

See, i will gladly work to make this site better, and when i say better i mean better in every regard. But not if the usual suspects keep doing their best to push down my efforts with bitching about my person. Thats apparently all that really interests somebody here; when a new forum or feature is added nobody gives a damn but as soon as there is a thread where people are throwing dirt in Phoenixxs face there are 750 views and 80 replies in no time. And i wont go along with this forever. If it is not a nice Pinball site you want then go ahead and make it a bitching forum, but you are going to have to do it without me because my patience is not limitless. I had enough of that at VPF, and if this is to continue here now then i have no choice but to call it a membership. In the end it will be the loss of the community here, which will be loosing somebody who could contribute a lot of things in many different ways,...

Thanks for opening the thread Phoenixx, this site was partially born because of the nutso moderation going on at the real VPF back in the early days, members being deleted, threads and posts disappeared without warning. If you wanted more moderation than the real VPF, this site was built primarily to avoid that stuff back when we were being heavily moderated.

I really believe that no one wants you to disappear, we all need to learn how to grow thicker skins, my pc is worthless without pinball and we all get passionate about the friggin' silverball. As far as expecting gratitude for adding blood sweat and tears to a site, welcome to da club, ask shiva, AJ and many others about time spent vs reward ratios, at least AJ was getting paid.

Phoenixx, there was no attack in that thread towards you on a personal level
Yogi had an issue with your signature, no big deal. By now you should know that yogi want us all to gather around a camp fire and give each other big hugs

Ruby651 made a few comments

Nobody else was attacking you

No attacks on a personal level.

Then the accusation that ive put that sign in my sig because i and the rest of PNs staff want to drive off members of the fake VPF is probably to be taken as a compliment then. I see.

And calling me a liar for explaining that that is not the case is not in any way personal or insulting either.

And insisting that it had to be as he assumed because i have changed the sign is not in any way personal or insulting either.

And claiming that the thread would have been 'untroubled' until i came into it when it was really him who started the insults is not in any way personal or insulting either.

And suggesting i would edit insults out of my posts in order to hide them from others is not in any way personal or insulting either.

And stupid comments like i would be making a drama out of it when in actuality it was him who made a drama over absolutely nothing is not in any way personal or insulting either.

And claiming i would harvest 'general antipathies' against other people is not in any way personal or insulting either.

And calling me jackass is not in any way personal or insulting either.

And TMFPs own repeated stupid comments not only in this thread are not in any way personal or insulting either.

Frankly, if all this is such harmless non-personal fun then i have to wonder exactly when i would be allowed to call it personal and insulting. Exactly how much of that i had to endure silently before i as Phoenixx have the right to be just as ticked off as everyone else would be in my place,...

No

And TMFPs own repeated stupid comments not only in this thread are not in any way personal or insulting either.

I have found all your posts on VPF.org most entertaining. It is like watching Foxnews. You feel better when you stop!
Without all this poison rhetoric this forum would be just about boring stuff like 'playing pinball' and 'making tables' (YAWN)
So keep up all the fun! Every forum needs its nutcases and whackjobs to make it worth logging in every day or so.

pete, you know that i love you but, i hope you understand that you have no idea about reality.

Nic, I love you too, but I am not the one playing 'chicken little' at the moment

I vented, then removed my comments,
I will now stfu.

In Germany, I think. I gotta say, in the 7 years I've been hanging around these pinball forums, there's only one other instance when I've seen someone with the word "moderator" below their name who was as full of rage, and had such a short fuse as you do, and that was during the very short reign here of your life-partner, Pacdude.
Let's face it; it takes a very special sort of person to be a forums moderator. What we call in America a "people person." I doubt seriously that I could do it. The thing is, you need to realize that you can't do it, either. The moment you start typing the words about locking down a thread... especially at PN, of all places, both famous and infamous for the freedom given its members... that's when you should realize that, despite all your other talents, you're just not a "people person."

This post was originally longer, but why bother, the gist of it will suffice.

Gist1: I dont care if anyone of the usual suspects here thinks im a 'people person' or not. Countless people whom i have helped because they have had enough decency to approach me in a respectful manner were perfectly satisfied with my communication skills and that is all that matters to me. Not you people. (You know who you are.)

Gist2: Like it or not, but im not here to live up to anyones expectations, except perhaps Jons, since he is the Captain of this ship. Respect me and i will respect you. Disrespect me and i will disrespect you. Simple formula.

I am sorry Phoenixx, but if you make silly comments I am going to poke fun at you!

Threatening to lock a thread
Not on Jon’s site

Saying that you are now going to drop the subject
We all know you want the last say, but if somebody else posts, we all know you cannot help yourself but reply
<O:p</O:p
Telling me that I should know better as I was once a moderator
Ha, my being a moderator never made you stop posting your ‘view’, so why shouldn’t I post

<O:p</O:p
Make an ass out of yourself, and I will laugh at you
Take life a little less seriously (we are not curing cancer here), and I will laugh with you
Simple formula

It is so sad that some people just dont realize that they are the ones who are making asses out ouf themselves. And that it is their adversarial behaviour that is the root cause of all problems in every social society, be that an internet community or an entire nation.

Take that australian baker fellow, prime example right there. Selling bread all day must be really frustrating, so what does he do in his spare time? Stirring the pot in some internet forum. But does that guy provide anything of value to the community? Did he ever contribute something that advanced virtual pinball? No, of course not, because that is quite obviously not why he comes here. Attracted like flies by manour the likes of him are rarely to be seen in this place unless there is some kind of controversy going on, and if there is none and they are bored they do their best to create one themselves. Disruptive, damaging, aggressive, adversarial. And yet they have the nerve to point fingers at other people, people who DO contribute positive things and people who DO things to advance virtual pinball in every way they can.

But the sadest part is that these people dont even realize anymore what fools they are. Case in point: He says if i make silly comments hes going to poke fun at me. For one thing that sure sounds like someone who is looking to fight with me, which prooves the point i made above regarding their actual reasons for being here. For another; shall i really find and quote all the silly comments he has thrown my way during the last two weeks alone and then search and quote my own alledged silly comments directed at him? (Or anyone else for that matter?) Sure enough, if i did that we would quickly find that he has dumped stupid comments practically wherever i went whereas i did no such thing. So what was his point again? I really dont know.

Then we have the 'view' thing. Now i dont know about him, but where i come from stating a view and acting like an asshole solely for being an asshole sake are two different things. (No offence.) When he was a staff person he banned Shockman from participating in the community because Shockman wouldnt 'know how to behave and how to drop things from the past'. This is remarkable because we all know that Shockman had every reason to be bitter since he had been wronged time and time again and then told to be quiet or be banned. But does he have a reason for being an asshole? Of course not, he is an asshole simply by choice. And even if he would have a reason he would still be doing the very same thing like the person whom he banned. So who is making an ass out of himself here? Who is really, really, really making an ass out of himself by banning a member from the community for doing something and then doing the very same thing himself?

But like i said, the truly sad part about it is that he doesnt even realize his foolishness. That he doesnt realize that this is no way to deal with each other, be that in real life or an internet community. That he doesnt realize that this will never lead to anything good and that the main goal should therefore be to overcome any disagreements and concentrate on positive and constructive things. Jon said we need to grow thicker skins, well, i couldnt disagree more. Ignorance doesnt solve problems, it never has. What is really needed is for some people to grow up and act their age. To realize that it is our behaviour that defines the social society we live in. Controversies are important and often helpful to redefine our own positions. Thats why a good argument is often a good thing, i would be the last person to deny this. But there has to be a point when we let a controversy be a controversy and move beyond it. A point when the will to get along must take precedence, to proove that our intelligence makes us more than an instinctively acting animal. And that goes not only for forums in the internet, it applies to the world as a whole,...

Finally the thread closing thing. Not that i owe anyone an explanation, but Jon couldnt be reached during that time so i looked up the forum rules. The rules state that repeated flaming shall not to be tolerated and thats why i considered closing the thread to stop that. Still i didnt do it until the thread starter agreed.

And last but not least my take on good moderationship in general. A moderator, much like a Judge or a Police Officer, doesnt have to be a 'people person'. The only important attributes to such persons are integrity, neutrality and an unswayable sense for justice. Their commission is not to discuss with people for hours on end until a mutual agreement is reached, their job is to learn and understand the rules and then uphold them according to the intentions of the entity who made them. It is also not up to them to make decisions based on their own gutfeeling and/or to invent new rules on the fly. (Hi Postman.) When a rule dictates a certain course of action then this is what they have to do. If the ruleset stipulates that a warning may be issued before any action is being taken then this is all the leeway they have. Otherwise they must act as the rules dictate or they are quite simply not the right person for the position.

If i were to moderate this place then you could bet your life that i would stick to exactly this principle. Because it is the ONLY principle a Judge, Police Officer or Forum Moderator has to follow. I understand that, and this is also why i would be a good moderator whereas postman was not. Because he never understood his position. Because he never understood that it is his cardinal duty to uphold the rules and that they are to be applied in any and all situations that qualify regardless of the persons involved. As soon as you stray from that principle you are no longer impartial, and when somebody is not impartial they are automatically becoming an arbitrary dictator who decides what rule applies when to whom merely based on whatever happens to float their boat at the moment. And we all know where this ultimately leads, and this is why it is important for a Moderator to understand the role he plays. Im still not here to moderate this place but at least i do understand the position,...

Oh mighty enforcer of all things good (Phoenixx)

<O:p</O:p
Please demonstrate where I have lowered myself to ‘name calling’ (asshole) other members???????

<O:p</O:p
PS, and I thought you were going to put me on ‘ignore’????
(Troll) more name calling

you do set a fine example!

LOL,...where do they breed these guys? :p\'n\'l:

Hey look...I am NOT here to entertain YOU!
YOU are here to entertain ME!
....so keep focused on that, ok?
also, if you please, some more of that condescending stuff, you know where you pretend no one else has lived a day of life and don't know ANY of the rules and they just got their computer today...That stuff is adorable!
...so more of that , PLEASE!

P.S. Oh more of the namecalling would be great, too if you don't mind..........."asshole" is fine, but you havent used "scum" for a while, so that would be sweet!

Thanks buddy
and remember.."KEEP FOCUSED ON THE COMEDY....you are a STAR!
(you see what I did there?...i said "STAR" like in Star Trek ..... get it?)

Is it just me or is there somebody miffed at me because i dont play with them? :cuss:

Point once more proven, nothing to gain here, hence time for me to ascend to the star filled heavens to be amongst my fellow stars,...

Aw craps, here i am jamming with Elvis and the other Stars, next thing i know someone pushes me and i fall off my nice cushy cloud, right into this place. Damn the luck.

Perhaps a good occasion to point out that some people are quite obviously confusing 'willing to be reasonable' with being a fucking pacifist. Like i said so often, im always prepared to get along but if somebody thinks he has to piss into my pocket i will gladly kick them in the proverbial teeth to illustrate what i think of that.

Now before i engage my mighty wings to get back up to my jam session, a little tip for the show tomorrow. If you have to insult me, why not for once try something intelligent? Or if thats too much to ask, at least something amusing? Prooving to the world that you cant even distinct between figure of speech and an intended insult however doesnt make one look very bright you know, besides, if we were to go by that logic then the postman had insulted me first by calling me an ass.

Well, gotta go now, if i dont get back quickly they will throw me out of the heavenly all-stars band!

A moderator, much like a Judge or a Police Officer, doesnt have to be a 'people person'.

That is wrong. Having worked in law enforcement for 8 years, I can guarantee you that American police officers have to be equal parts psychologist, psychiatrist, drug and alcohol-abuse counselor, and friendly bartender who will listen to you about the shitty day you had. It's impossible to be a police officer without being a "people person." Just like it's impossible to be a moderator without being a "people person."

As for Pete's contribution to the VP community, he did a pretty thankless job for a pretty long time at the old VP Forums and, having been spanked by him a couple of times myself, I can say that from my perspective, he managed to do the job pretty fairly and without ever losing his cool. His work helped to make VPForums one of the most popular VP-related sites on the net, a sterling example of a contribution to advance virtual pinball.

Look, I've got nothing against you personally, Phoenixx. I might disagree with some of your views, and I definitely disagree with the way you express them, but if this internet melting pot were made of all the same ingredients, it would be rather bland. You do seem to be a pretty big Star Trek fan, so that gives us that much common ground. All I ask is that if you do want to step into the murky waters of moderating, ask yourself one question before hitting the keyboard... WWPD? What would Picard do? Ya gotta admit, Jean-Luc was definitely a "people person"!
