Really do yourself a favour, put aside your preconceived notions, appreciate the true art, imagination and inventiveness of anime, assuming you can read subtitles.
For me I need only glance at them these days and know the meaning, not that I can understand or talk Japanese apart from a few often used phases, it a strange form of subliminal understanding.
You can try here for a quick mid seasonal overview, though really that just doesn't do the series the credit it deserves..
I don't have too much to add, but I did read "Death Note" some time back. Definitely a cut above most manga I've checked out. Problem for me was, I liked the concept on the whole, but there was stuff that pissed me off at the same time. What the hey, guess I'll just list it out:
1) I really didn't buy the idea that they zeroed in on Light as quickly as they did; 2) seems like they got overly obsessed with catching him, never giving him an slack for performing an otherwise valuable service on the whole; 3) the ending where Light got caught and completely humiliated didn't seem right. For as brilliant as the guy was otherwise, he sure seemed to bungle all that when the pressure came along.
Steve, did you happen to read the manga in which a super-scary looking young man who also happens to be a gentle soul is mistaken for being a hyper-violent badass? The book has some dull moments here and there, but is about as hilariously clever as I've ever seen a manga get.
I use the LiveChart android app these days, the other sites have proven unreliable and this app is great, alerts me when my watched anime episodes have recently aired and has all the options to look up all released anime.
Ah took a snap at work today, just totally unrelated, but yeah anime can be like that, so what the hey...
