Bally Future Spa lighting issues

ArtGuyDeluxe

Pinball Nudger
I have a Bally Future Spa that I recently purchased. It works fine, but the back board does not light up (the "Future Spa" blinking lights work fine, but the constant-on bulbs do not light up). I thought this might be a fuse issue, but I'm not sure which fuse controls these lights. Additionally today my constant lights on the play field stopped working. These are the lights beneath all the translucent, elevated pieces on the board. The rest of the machine works like a dream!
I have to apologize, since I'm new at pinball maintenance and repair, I haven't absorbed all of the nomenclature yet! Please be patient!:help:
Any ideas, experts?

the lights in the head and the playfield that are on all the time are called general illumination or GI lighting. bally was known for using #44 bulbs in both GI lighting. these bulbs draw too much power, check or replace them with #47 bulbs. the added amp draw from #44 bulbs burns the connectors on the fuse/ rectifier board. you might see burn marks on white female connectors. the bad female pins need to be replaced and the heat prob. took out the male pins under them and their solder connections. reflow the solder connections on the other male pins when you change the bad male pins.

Good call. I recently replaced several burnt out 44 bulbs on the playfield, so I wouldn't be surprised if that is the problem. (the bulbs on the head were all 44s, but they haven't worked since I got the machine) I just ordered a box of 47 bulbs and I'll check those connections. Would I have likely blown a fuse as well?
Thanks for your help!

the GI lighting fuse is on the fuse/rectifier board . even with the burnt connectors the fuse usually holds good , unless there is a short it will blow out.

That was absolutely the problem. I replaced all GI bulbs with 47s, then checked the wiring. Sure enough, the wires were fried where they entered the rectifier board. I jiggled them and the lights sprung back to life, but I will resolder the connections as well, since the connection is shaky at best. Thanks!!

I was afraid to do this but I believe if you unapprove files, they just are like a soft delete, still there but not visible..

  • @ Ike Savage:
you're talking about FTP on uploads.PN still?

  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
No, the archived category in resources..

I could see removing some resources and/or resource folders, if that helps. that VP PhysMod stuff is probably not useful any more, etc
Were you talking about the ftp subdomain? :wave-nerd:

where is the unapprove option, anyway? is that a super mod thing or something from the admin panel?
    Quote
  • @ Ike Savage:
    oh wait, I see it
    Quote
  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
true, but they could also be invisible to users and perhaps allow the category to be removed
    Quote
  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
Don't know, do know that if you delete a category all files would also be removed so that's bad,

  • @ Ike Savage:
seems like we discussed it in some length at one point and came up with the current arrangement, but I don't have a strong opinion on that stuff. the one thing I do like is that I can clear out weaker tables from the main section without deleting them

  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
Sounds fine to me Ike, can't disagree with ya!

  • @ Ike Savage:
is it that you want to declutter more of the resources section?
    Quote
  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
    No it's fine
    Quote
  • @ Ike Savage:
also, just to be clear-- the issue with "unapprove" is that you don't know if the table actually gets deleted from the server, right? AFAIK I have no way of seeing where the tables actually lie on the server, so it's something I can't test effectively

  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
They wouldn't get deleted from the server, I don't think.

  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
Can we get back to the subdomain folders/files, the uploads.pinballnirvana.com folder is where uploads would need to be, just wondering what might need to be deleted..

  • @ Ike Savage:
do you mind a phone call? probably easier to discuss, save some wear and tear on my hands, too

  • @ JonPurpleHaze:
No problems Ike, can't talk now but will try and set this up.

  • @ Ike Savage:
okay, well let me know if you need space cleared up across the torrent area, because I have some ideas

Yeah, noticed a .zip file contains many versions etc..

The file is actually on the server in FP originals but isn't public.
