Inevitable ... ?

Wow, Ike! I hope you've got the number of a good attorney, because that post was cold-blooded murder!

Aw, wouldja look at that... we're "galpals!" Because, you know, reading books is something that girls do. I guess being a no-nothing half-wit is strictly "guy" territory. When someone makes you look stupid, forget about trying to make yourself smarter... just try to insult their masculinity like you're a ten-year-old. MAGA!

Good to see you're still around, sir!

Sounds like the fireworks show is finally starting to begin, vis a vis Mueller's findings. :o

Well, Coil Smoke... looks like you finally got your wish, huh?

The funny thing about the impeachment process is that Herr Drumpf seems to be doing almost everything in his power to aid the opposition case. And the craziest thing about the impeachment process is: how do you somehow narrow years of fraud, lawlessness and traitorous actions in to a single, actionable case? Like, zoiks!

Me? I think I would need an entire dept-full of people to aid me in that kind of thing. Like the Department of Justice, for example. (were it not headed up by a couple of Trump-toadies at the moment, as it is currently)

How that peach tasting now?

mmm..the ignorant masses beliefs in unsustainable growth/population/man made religions/faith...< get a grip, the right to breed the earth into extinction to support the lie of sustained economic growth.

Kind of sad given that which some have achieved only to suffer under the ignorance of the ruling idiocratic Narcissistic inbreds whose geneitic pool should have been eliminated under anything near natural selection.

I hold great hopes for the virus Earth needs a good cleansing...

Well, that's exactly where we're headed. But it's a damn shame countries like yours, i.e. relatively minor polluters, are having to pay first.

I talk to this guy in NZ sometimes, and he said the smoke from the massive wildfires looked pretty intimidating even as far away as he is from Oz. And now from what I'm reading, you folks (well, Queensland coastal folks) are probably going to experience yet another massive bleaching event this year, which of course affects the larger ecological chain.

Of course the USA itself has been hit pretty relentlessly by drought and wildfires. Problem is, monied interests basically took over one of the two parties, and it's really hard to be proactive on this stuff when they just auto-block all useful legislation.

This is essentially the problem with capitalism-- that the system tends to overvalue money over sustainability. That works in the short term, and makes a lot of people rich, but in the end, it brings down the whole system.

Trump being acquitted is also an example of this. There wasn't any thought involved by those whose very jobs were to act as jury. No witnesses called, no real interest in the case at hand. The right wing majority are just corporate bots in suits at this point. I'm only barely exaggerating, too, which goes to show how sad and screwed up the whole situation is.

Australia has black hands, plenty of black gold has been a major backbone of our economy...so much so even though most commercial interests are no longer interested in supporting the industry our idiotic currently elected right wing polititians still support coal.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.....

Somehow Itchy, I'm thinking aliens from another world is not an inevitable or even a probable solution.

Especially those of the imaginary man made kind, likewise with all human concieved religions, just don't count on GOD or aliens to fix this...just saying that is not going to happen, that said there is most certainly both beings.

Kind of hoped and calculated I might live out my mortal days on this Earth without it all going tits up, eh maybe only got another 30 or 40 years left at best myself...so perhaps, being in a rather better demographic then most, maybe.

Well, here we are...

It's the USA's presidential debate for the next presidency, this night of Tuesday 9/29, year 2020.

Joe Biden vs. Donald Trump.

If there's not more at stake in this election, I'm not even sure what planet you're from.

Is anyone else reminded of the old Jesus vs Satan South Park cartoon?? (LOL)

Seriously, it's Capitalism vs Socialism. Like James Bond, you can watch it all on tv....film at 11.

Very well, Itchigo...!

Thanks Ike, that's it! But seriously, there has not been such a fundamental difference between 2 philosophies in a very long time. I got a sneak peak at Biden prepping for the debate......

Hah, pretty much!

Watching a lost little lamb like Biden try to take on a career bullshit artist of this magnitude truly does make me wonder what the hell the DNC was possibly thinking.

Like-- they had Warren, they had Sanders... they had various other choices, too. People who would have torn in to Trump with a righteous, accurate level of fury.

Instead, we get a tongue-tied idiot like this. One which every person with a soul has to vote for, anyway!

Bah...

I'm actually surprised Joe is coherent tonight for as long as he's been. He'll need the week off after this. I guess depending on who you follow, your guy is doing good. While I'm not a Biden supporter, I'm surprised at his energy tonight. I haven't seen him like this in a while. Still, you have to have something to back up. You can't just attack all the time.

Not sure what you mean by "my guy," Itchigo.

"My guy" is the environment, sustainability, and managing natural resources well. You know-- so that we might have a future of sorts...?

"Your guy" was a general statement about everyone. It meant whoever anyone supported they'll probably say that their guy won. Sorry, I didn't mean to single you out. So if you support Trump, you'll probably say he won, and if you support Biden, you'll probably say he won.

Rather than edit I just replied again. :)

Trump is for environment, sustainability, etc. But when you have crippling regulation in the name of whatever, it will greatly slow that industry. If it's warranted, fine. Trump contests that it is warranted to that extent, so the left makes the case that he wants to pollute. It's all BS politics. The truth is probably in the middle somewhere.

"Trump is for the environment."

Of course he is... my mistake!

I don't think anyone is for dirty air and dirty water. But CA wants to stop selling gas cars in 15 years. Why? Cars are cleaner now than they have ever been. Give people an option, but don't force it on them. Coal is cheap and cleaner than it's ever been. Other sources are fine too, but they're more expensive. So given that, is there really a need for drastic change? No. Incremental changes are fine, and that's where he's coming from.

At some point I need to wrap this kind of commentary up, as we're all here for the enjoyment of pinball and related games, and not to disrespect each other or to tear in to each others' belief systems.

There's also the fact that I became a staff member some years after this thread was started, and it's not a real good look to be arguing politics / belief as someone whose biggest responsibility is to be professional and impartial.

That said, it's childishly, depressingly easy to refute the nonsensical assertions above.

Indeed, I'm continually shocked and amazed by the sheer number of people who believe the above rubbish, plus similar nonsense. Until of course I remind myself that people tend to form their belief systems based on comfort, and not facts & reality.

This is pretty-much a theme of the human condition, one might say. I.e., belief over feel-good fact. Unfortunately or not.

All that tiresomely said, I'll try to add some coherent fact-checking to the above:

it's Capitalism vs Socialism

It's really not. Drop Biden in just about any other first-world county, and he's a complete centrist, maybe even with right-wing leanings. Drop Trump in those same countries, and they'd pretty-instantly identify him as a complete pawn of various global interests, starting with Putin and Trump's own debt collectors. This kind of thing was crystal clear years before 2016, but if there was any real doubt left, it's in Trump's tax returns. In other words, this is not just a cronyist candidate bought lock, stock and barrel, but far worse than that. Hopefully people can investigate themselves, and I don't need to proceed with more details. And yet many obviously don't, which is why people still support him and still vote for him. On the surface, one more baffling example of why people enthusiastically vote against their own interests.

I don't think anyone is for dirty air and dirty water.

While nominally true, in fact we keep doing it by our real-world actions, while pretending that it's not a big deal. And that is the problem, Tim.

Still, if you're unsure about that kind of thing, maybe ask yourself how we got to such an amazingly diverse, complicated, natural feedback loop of sustainability after a couple billion years (I'm talking about the state of life on Earth), only for a mere century or two of the industrial age threatening to knock out all the supporting structure, all the while pretending it isn't there.

Give people an option, but don't force it on them.

This right here is a huge problem with our country (the USA).

For example, as an experiment, would you place a bunch of hungry rats in a cage, only interested in their rewards (treats, i.e. money), letting them work it out? How do you think that's going to go? Do you think the rats would form a relatively equitable living situation, or do you figure it'll be moreso 'the most vicious, wealthy rat will be king o' the heap'.

That's what we had here in the USA, while most other major countries have moved well beyond that. Yet we still pretend that that the overall deal works, and that America is a "Great County."

In fact, America is a third-world country (education, law-enforcement, infrastructure, etc) by common measures, stuck fantasizing about being "the big dawg."

@elton
From what I've seen, read and digested, Brexit has been a stone-cold disaster of a political move, negatively impacting virtually everyone in the UK. I truly am amazed (and impressed?) how some people seem to keep giving it a go no matter what.

It's all good. While I wouldn't campaign, we are in the "Soapbox". When I said Capitalism vs Socialism, I mean the NWO, which are really pulling the strings here. I've studied this stuff since W2K. See Agenda 2020.

Truthfully, I was hoping for better last night. It was pretty much a fistfight. I don't think any minds were changed, on either side. From what I'm seeing on tv, that's the general consensus too. I was hoping for Rambo, but got the first half of a Rocky movie. :)

Same same again...

Yes and no.

YES, because this is certainly a classic complaint about the official candidates, and it's not entirely wrong here. Who the hell really wanted Joe Biden as the democratic candidate, anyway? (the old-guard democratic establishment, that's who)

Bernie Sanders was an interesting alternate, but far too liberal for America's biggest voting base, i.e. right-wingers. Still, he brought real passion and straight facts, and fits in easily with the rest of the first world's major parties and leaders. I must say, it's pretty embarrassing as a nation when a guy with passion, facts and excellent relations with other free nations around the world (not including Australia, Steve, which seems to be run by a complete dunce these days), is automatically disqualified from being a party's candidate.

Yes, and let that sink in for a moment. That's how far right the USA has drifted over the past fifty or so years... when candidates who are basically first-world centrists get preposterously branded as "socialists." That's when you know lies and thought-control aren't just rumors.

Ah, and there was also Liz Warren and a bunch of other solid Dem candidates, most of whom would have been preferable to Biden. Not to mention, a bunch of GOP candidates who doubtlessly would have made far better presidents than Trump. So let that sink in as well-- the fact that every United States presidential candidate from the big two parties in 2016 would likely have done a far better job than what we got. You want to talk about a complete disaster? Now THAT is a complete disaster (with wide-ranging consequences).

So if there's not a bigger piece of evidence that our republic / democracy is broken, I'm not sure what it would be... other than the fact that our senate is now completely overrun by corporate interests who block virtually every lawful motion meant for the interest of the populace. Directly in order to make money in the short-term, without a care in the world for long-term sustainability. Just examine the senate's voting record, and you'll find that's typically spear-headed by USA's Republican party, over and over again.

And NO, because of what I said above, but also because Biden (same with any halfway competent candidate) at least represents a vastly better chance for national & global survival. Not to mention, to hopefully reverse some of the many catastrophes Trump's admin has directly caused. There is literally (not figuratively) no real future with a Trump re-election, even as the guy's cronies do everything possible to ensure he's crookedly reelected (again), as we've already seen with the national level of mail-tampering, etc.
