I have used Mint many moons ago in a dual boot setup with windows and it worked a charm back then, though I do like the look of Manjaro Linux.

Do you have any personal thoughts on the various differences in Linux versions?

Me, without any real experience, I could see the differences being relatively trivial... all the way up to the differences being absolutely critical.

For example, if there's a Linux version that's only meant to run on certain hardware, it would probably be a freaking symphony of headaches trying to get it to run on different hardware.

Something like that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Most modern linux versions are designed to run on all PC hardware of the last 5 to 10 years or so and for the most part even much older hardware will work.

Most usually you will have few, if any issues, those in the top 10 or so have exellent community support through their forums. That said there is always a learning curve and the new install is the most scary part.

If you should run into any such issues, any newbie posts are usually answered within the hour or less, you can easily browse those forums to confirm this.

The reason I liked the Manjaro Linux is that it is a rolling release and newer versions can be installed without having to backup and reinstall the whole thing again and I kind of like the KDE desktop with all the bells, animations and whistles.

Makes winblows look prehistoric, the customisations you can apply are almost endless, whilst being within it's working design and again any issues the forum support will back you up.

thanx for your help Steve

Interesting ... I see that StevOz's last reply should have had an image attached. Nothing is showing in Firefox or Chrome; Edge shows 2 white rectangles where I presume some images should have been displayed.

Ahoy, Elton. Those were two youtube videos, which PN auto-configures in to java-scripted frames. That's meant for user convenience, so you can play the videos without having to leave the site.

Possibly you have some kind of java-script protection or ad-blocker running, which prevents them from being displayed that way.

Anyway, without the formatting, they would look something like this: (you would need to copy-paste these to make them play)

Code:

That would explain it.

Thanks again.
