Default Tired of white triangles as cursors?

Little has changed since Windows95 when it comes to cursors. Except for a green glossy ring that replaces the hourglass, even in Vista the cursors are still pretty much the same boring white triangles. But what if you wanted something a little less bland, something like a little animated rocket for example?

This is where CursorFX (formerly CursorXP) comes into play. Available as both Freeware and Payware with enhanced functions, (such as resizing, recoloring, trails, sounds and click-effects, etc.), it allows you to outfit your OS with cursors that come much closer to what one would expect in the year 2009. The cursorpacks can be downloaded for free and there are so many (currently 243 pages) that i am sure there is something for everyone.

Personally i have seen many good packs in the past but none with such an incredible amount of detail as OuterLimits. (Which is pretty much what compelled me to write this post.) OuterLimits is the little animated rocket i mentioned, and the effects and animations in this pack are nothing short of amazing. I had a look at the individual images and one can clearly see how much effort and thought the author has put into it. The animations have up to 300+[!] frames per cursor and consist of very impressive looking seamless effects like dropping the four outer jets when moving onto an icon or a host of planets and other space objects passing by the rocket when the OS is 'busy' as though the rocket had gone to 'warp'. (With Windows standard cursors there would only be a turning hourglass.) Actually i think there is not one cursor/event that is not somehow animated, in fact even the 'normal' rocket that replaces the normal arrow (see screenshot) has an constantly animated jet-stream which even slowly expands in length when you push the left mousebutton. Like i said, the amount of work that went into this pack is obvious and the authors love for detail is impressing by all means. If you like space themes, im sure you will love the OuterLimits cursor pack. Its my new absolute favorite.

In closing a couple of relevant links:

    CursorFX Download

    Cursorpacks @ WinCustomize

Tip: Once CursorFX is installed you can apply a cursorpack by clicking on it. (If you dont want to do it via the GUI that is.) Cursorpacks have either a 'CurXPTheme' or a 'CursorFX' extension.

Feel free to post and share your own favorites as well,...it would be very interesting to know what other people would pick as their preferred cursors.

    GlassMaxX

    StarWars

    X-Alien2 [GREY]

    MB-Phoenix

    Alien3D_2

UISTA [Except for the green and the houglass, but its still well done.]
