Several other people over have mentioned this on VPF, but I do think it needs repeating. We as a community can and should do a better job in promoting ourselves and our hobby, or in many a case, our passion, Visual Pinball. At the bottom of our homepage at Flipperless, there is a Visual Pinball WebRing, first started by JonPurpleHaze. Yes, in between his Rants he does do some good now and then. The problem is that there are only seven (7) sites listed. One of those sites is VP Originals, started by Aussies Anthias and Rockinghorse, and their friend. So of course you will find a VP WebRing on their site too, and the other five sites as well. It doesn’t cost a thing to become a part of the VP WebRing and it’s probably the best way of attracting new people, and new Authors, maybe, to our ranks.
Sure, we continue to grow by leaps and bounds, if all that seems important are raw numbers. But what I’m interested in is active and involved members. Members who will at first read the various forums, VPF, shivaSite, Flipperless.com, and VP Originals are a nice core that include a number of smaller boards or forums. I’m fairly sure the JonPurpleHaze began the VP WebRing, after I had joined the Pinball WebRing. While it would be a good idea for us all to belong to both, the VP WebRing is essential to our growth and increase in the number of new authors we attract. It’s also the easiest way to promote ourselves, since anyone with a site or even just a web page can join.
I don’t have any facts and figures to prove that this VP WebRing thing has or will get us instant results, I doubt that it will. But slow and quite results are often the best, and many times, a person might think about it for a while before doing anything at all about it. So we might never have any facts and figures which prove the VP WebRing attracts new blood to our ranks. But I can assure you that if we don’t use the VP WebRing, it can’t attract anyone at all. It’s just a suggestion, and not because JPH and Flipperless.com started it. Visit any of the other members when you decide to join the VP WebRing, but do join. Just maybe the next Duglis, Eala, Leon, or Bendigo will be recruited through the VP WebRing.
