This is my place for posting whatever.... Pinball is great, but for many of us, these oddball type threads have always been more entertaining than the latest table releases, so let's try something different and create a space or a blog or just tweet us to something. Comment here and also create a thread for your own trick or tweets.

For starters, it's mid November and the weather in Ohio has been amazingly warm so far this year. I've never seen anything like it, most of the time you don't even need a jacket.... Global warming?

Football is big in Ohio. I'm watching the Bengals & Steelers football game, it's tied 9-9. I've been a Brown's fan my whole life, but they currently suck banana's....

I was watching an NBA basketball game the other night and they were all talking about the greatest basketball player of all-time, apparently it is Michael Jordan. Reggie Miller even went so far as to say his number "23" should be retired from the whole NBA league.

My problem with this is..... When did Michael Jordan ever surpass Wilt Chamberlain as the greatest player ever? I mean just look at the following link for NBA records and look for Chamberlain and Jordan's names.

Jordan couldn't carry Wilt's jock.... Chamberlain claimed to have slept with over 20,000 different women.

Hi Bob, nice thread! It seems it's akin to 'YOGI'S CORNER' at the other place!? I wish you good luck and much interests by the members. I notice relative small interests at VPF. The number of views isn't that bad, but the active participation is low, although I constantly try to provide interesting themes, different music and this and that. All in all it seems pinball is the most dominant theme. Let's try to provide other amusement/entertainment/conversation anyway. yogiholzer

Yes it has been warm here in Ohio,Bob. And the Begals won! Cleveland's so bad I think Cardinal Mooney could steamroll them. It's a shame but at least one Ohio NFL team's doing well.
Global warming or just natural earth occurrences that only happen every thousands of years? :)

I just watched an hour TV program about shrinking heads and before that was a program about Easter Island. TV sure looks great in High Def.... It even makes the golf channel seem worthwhile.

Still wet here and serious flooding in Cumbria.

Since the regulators have switched off analogue tv signals and we're now 100% digital I've decided to get with the program and go LCD TV with Blu-Ray DVD. Cannot hold out any longer. So hopefully there is a 46 inch Sony on route as we speak. :)

The burial service for our 50inch rear projection Toshiba is likely to be held very soon unless I can find a space for it to use as for games

If you get a new widescreen LCD TV, you will love it. Consider getting a surround sound system also, unless you already have one. I have a PS3 and it plays Blu-Ray DVD's, but I haven't tried one yet. I have been buying alot of normal DVD's on eBay lately. :)

I started this thread hoping Nic would stick around, but it looks like he had his account changed to a non-posting account. It seems like almost everyone from the early days has vanished from this scene, that's a shame, because I'm only involved with the pinball forums, I never got involved in other types of forums and I seem to miss these guys as there was a form of bonding for me in some of those friendships. I don't like to IM or PM or email, but I always enjoyed the public banter that we shared.

Yeah, bought a Sony Blu-Ray player too - can't wait. Already have a very elaborate DTS system based on Denon amplification, Monitor Audio/Mission speakers and a USA made SVS PB12/2 sub. Mighty sound and no mistake!

Know what you mean about Nic. He has many interests aside from this one. I know the debate around pinball forums loosing interest and haemorraging members; I honestly believe that the whole global warming bunkem on the original VPF site caused many peeps to start staying away before the new vs old VPF stuff further dividing members. The arguments wore people down. You couldn't express an opinion without it being ripped to shreads and demands for evidence to support it. That's not why peeps come to forums. Many thought too strongly about the subject and at the end of the day it made friends part company. IMO

I have many interests outside of pinball but don't get involved with the forums - the group of peeps who belong to them do not gel as this place once did and therefore do not hold my interest. So I fully empathise with your view.

Additionally, I'm too busy to try most tables. Cannot remember when I actually played a VP table last


Still, there are a few old farts around the place posting the odd shit so we'll have to be grateful for that. God I miss the VPFF scene for all its faults.

I'm also not involved in other types of forums and I only read in different other forums sometimes just for quick info on different things. I don't like IM. I'm ok with PM and E-Mail, but that's only for very private talk. I feel the same as you describe. That was the reason I started YOGI'S CORNER.

I had to decide where to start it and from whatever reason I decided to start it over there at VPF. I'm not sure, but I guess it's because the idea came from 1234fd over there and generally there was more request to stay when I was undecided to stay or to leave at all. Another reason: Usually my free time is limited and I'm overstrained to follow the talk at different forums and I considered to meet nearly the same people as here there too and I considered a better chance to make new friends. I don't know if it was the right decision, because I miss some people from here over there, but there's already some talk, not only about men themes.

It's seems the large beer wasn't enough to keep you posting over there. Or the talk wasn't enjoyable and entertaining enough or it wasn't interesting at all. I don't know. But I like to invite you to another large beer and then to post about what you like. The public banter still has to develope, because the people there are still not that familiar to each other, but that comes automatically.

Hope to see you and some others there too soon.

Hey Bob tell me you're working on a super secret VP9 original...Marvin the Martian? Bugs? Well I love your tables so much I had to ask sometime...So weird weather in Akron? Youngstown, too...(A few weeks ago boy it was like we had some Indian summer days, eh?) Oh well turning chilly now. Go BROWNS! 1-9 - might as well go for a 1st round draft pick the way they're going...Even Cincinnati lost to Oakland of all teams...at least the Buckeyes won...1 out of 3 in Ohio! :)

I must have missed something, why did nic quit posting? I know I don't post as often as others but I always try to keep up on my reading of the forums and I had noticed I haven't seen anything from nic but I must have missed why he quit posting.

I have been buying alot of normal DVD's on eBay lately. :)

Why buy DVDs when you can... well, I hate to use the word "steal"... how about "liberate"? Using the newsgroups, one can "liberate" a lot of free DVDs, and it's pretty easy. My tools are
1. A great site that spots new releases http://www.binaryinvasion.com/index.php
2. A dedicated Usenet server that can download a DVD in about and hour http://www.news.astraweb.com/
3. A simple burning program like DVD Converter (but a lot of the newer versions of Nero and Roxio can handle these tasks)
4. Blank DVDs
It's pretty easy to make the process pay for itself and they still look great on Hi Def!

Sleepy, everything sounds great when it's made for 5.1 surround sound.

Marv, I don't really have a specific themed VP table WIP at the moment, it's hard to not play the ps3 when I want to play a game.

Ruby, I never have much luck in burning movies or DVD's, they always seem to have a couple of screwups. I have some programs that will even shrink the files to fit the DVD and even copy DVD's. I seem to use my torrent time on mp3's, my broadband is Roadrunner light (14.95US/ month) and it's only 7 times faster than dialup.

Bob the PS3! How dare you...seriously I have a 360 but can never get on it...Watch out for a yellow light that's bad news if that occurs on your console...mine just stopped playing BD's so that scrapped all games and movies...:)

I've always had relatively good luck on all the burning programs I've used Clone DVD seems to work great for shrinking and burning DVD video files. I could see how the Roadrunner Light could definitely prohibit you from downloading them... it would be an all-day affair!
