You currently need to be logged in in order to post in the box. All Users can hide the ChatBox by clicking on the double arrows to the right of the ChatBox that looks like this:

I'm still not sure if the new ChatBox should be moved back to the bottom of the page and there is also an option to have it collapsed by default.

Most of the BBcodes should work in the ChatBox, they are the same as the ones on the posting pages, see this page for more information about bbcodes:
