NOTE: This 'public staff-talk' thread split out from here:

Unfortunately, that photo album program is long gone and officially died in January 2016, I have looked at backups and created a zip file (not all of the images are backglasses) and will upload it soon.
Any idea if you still have the zip, Jon?

I didn't see it in resources.

Well, I couldn't find a zip file of these, it's probably lurking around somewhere and could have saved me a lot of time, oh well...

The old coppermine image program, I had it backed up and it was still on the server until sometime last year, it was not working since we left VB and was replaced by the Media add-on. I went through the images in the albums and separated the Backglass and Playfield images into different folders and created zip files for each. All of the images are quite old and I also copied Phoenixx's backglasses from this thread into the backglass zip.

I've attached the zips temporarily to this thread, I need to decide where to put the images, they probably belong in the Media section and there's a new feature when creating forums (IE: Real Pinball/Backglasses, Playfields) to automatically add entries (doesn't add the file twice) of images or videos into a similar media category. They are so old that I don't know if the images should be displayed individually but it would help users who are searching for specific machines without having to download the zip files and might get others to upload images they have collected.
Edited: I uploaded these zip files into the Resources Graphics category here:

I guess the zip files could also be added to the Resource category of Graphics, what do you guys think?

Edit: Forgot to mention that I didn't try to rename the files in these zips, everybody was naming things differently...

Oh yeah, it's one of the (many) things I've been thinking about, recently.

Because I'm not sure there's a particular site that specialises in this stuff (I tend to like PinballArtUSA, a commercial site), and its a huge project frankly, but I'd love it if we could at least organise the best of what we have, then perhaps improve on it and add to it over time.

Both table-makers and RL machine owners could potentially get a lot of use out of a really good section like that.

Even just featuring @popotte's incredible collection of backglasses would be pretty awesome. I get the sense that for many of them, JP took the picture in person, then spent more time in PS straightening it out. The IPDB is lucky to have all his contributions, that's for sure!

There's also of course this section to integrate, I would think--
https://pinballnirvana.com/forums/resources/categories/modified-backdrops.40/ (Modified Backdrops)

Btw, my main reaction to you rescuing some of the Coppermine resources is pretty much...

--- AWESOME!!! ---

:D

Btw, @druadic had also uploaded a bunch of resources like this to Coppermine, circa ten years ago. Do you know if those are included, or are maybe still to be un-archived?

I edited my previous post and deleted the zip files, they were added here:

I've decided to start creating forum and media categories for Backglasses and Playfields, I started a test about this new system back in January, if you click on the images in this thread they open up in the relevant media category with links back to the thread and Users can leave comments about individual images or videos.

I sure hope new forum categories aren't going to be added (*groan*), but new media cats sound like a great solution!

Quality backglasses and stipped PF's will always be a major asset to everyone across the pin scene. Altho the resource & forum sections unfortunately seem like a pretty clunky place to stash them, the "Media" section does seem perfect, from my limited experience.

Thanks for taking the lead on this Jon, as I think this could potentially be a major, attractive asset of PN. Hopefully I can get my monkeys on the project at some point, helping to sort and contribute graphics with their tireless, little simian hands.

Does I have to put my previous pics in the graphics section (and delete the post)?

Hello @popotte, I'm testing a different option for image uploads, I'll get back to you.

Oh dear. Just noticed that evidently you can't filter by title in the media section. That seems pretty essential for a project like this. Wonder if it can be hacked to do that, or something?

.

Just noticed that the way the Media cats are laid out right now, it sort of looks like "Tunes" and "Unsorted Albums" are subcategories of "Pinball Images" (attach #1) which I fear might preclude people from noticing that Pinball Images can in fact be clicked on to display all the new goodness. (attach #2)

It's an 'optical illusion' of sorts, because Tunes and Unsorted Albums are actually top-level categories, along with Pinball Videos and Pinball Images. Still, it can be hard to tell, as is.

I think what I'll do is to try to arrange things a little differently, which I trust isn't going to break anything or ruffle any feathers...

@JonPurpleHaze,
Okay, I created the top-level cat "Other" for now, and moved Tunes and Unsorted Albums in there as subcats.

Might want to rename and/or rearrange this stuff in future, but I think the little issue in question is solved.

Thanks Ike about the category changes, they are much better!
I added a Title filter to the Media section.

@popotte, I'd love to have images uploaded, I'm done testing and suggest that pinball Images be uploaded into the Media Section, here are some categories that were created:

See this announcement about the new system:

Thanks!

Edited : 3/15/21 Suggest the Media Section instead of the forums, Added a Other Category.

Yes, Jon, I can. But not now, as I left my home tomorrow for about one week.
Maybe a third section (others, plastic, apron, ...) would be useful.

Okay, I've updated the resource upload notice to reflect these changes.

I guess there's also an argument for adding a notice to Media Uploads, asking people to include maker and date. At the same time, I'm kinda rolling my eyes at creating yet another notice, and I'm thinking that as long as the table name is mentioned, that should be enough.

Then again, sometimes people might want to search by a list of manufacturers or specific year.

So, maybe something to ask the members in the coming site update message...?

I STILL have those images somewhere Jon. I also just found a few more that are amazing. I keep asking myself though WHY I would help folks to make flippered tables. I must be losing my mind.

If you would like the newer images just let me know. I find pretty stuff I like to share.

Done, done and done. Your wish is my command.

I find images like this everywhere. If I find more I'll add them to the media area again. Who knows what else I can dig up.

Thanks for the images @druadic, I've updated the announcement about adding pinball images here with embed instructions.

To embed media into threads and/or resources, look for this Gallery Embed BBCode image above your post in a thread and/or resource entry:
Gallery Embed

The media items you have added can now be embedded into the forums and/or resources, here's a sample of your images:

This can also be done with Videos, here's a test with @Popotte's recent addition:

You're welcome.

Added four more BGs to the media section. Hope someone can use them. Enjoy.

@druadic,
Thanks for the uploads, and question, Will-- were you able to see this message when at the backglasses section?

When uploading, please add the maker and year after the game title.
For example: Addams Family (Midway, 1992)

Yes and I really never know the dates of these. I've had more medical issues so I didn't have time to do those. Sorry about that. Doctor tomorrow.

No probs, health first!

I'll fix the info later. In future, if you google "ipdb {game name}" you'll see the official table entry 99% of the time.

I went ahead and fixed these Ike. Just FYI.
