Hey Guys, it has been a while, and the last three years have been a journey

three years ago I got a scratch on my leg, which let in a bug
the bug decided i was tasty and decided to stay
after two weeks off work i woke up to black spots on my leg ozzing orange liquid. so off to the emergency department
Necrotizing Fasciitis was the diagnosis
usually fatal , about 25% mortality rate
treatment is to remove the infected skin and to keep removing until all of the infection is gone
i wake up to see half of the skin of my leg gone , a few weeks later i go in for plastic surgery to fix the hole
it takes about 12 surgeries and 3 months to get me walking again and another two months resting at home

pervious to this I had developed type 2 diabetes, but being a tough guy I had not seen a doctor about it
three month later i stub my toe, it does not heal and six weeks later it get chopped off

then an infection sets in and another toe gets the chop
then three more
then the next bone in my foot gets infected

November 2019 and the doctors tell me they cannot get in front of the infection, the leg has to go
i am not upset at this, it sucks but i know it was going to happen

a month later the leg comes off but due to the previous surgeries and the diabetes, my recovery is slow, it took until June 2020 for them to be able to fit a prosthetic leg
unfortunately the leg did not fit well and I had to undergo revision surgery
i am still recovering and hope to get a leg soon in 2021

Damn not the way you want to get legless, that's one nasty flesh eating bug, betadine even us tough guys use it and too many donuts perhaps?

Hope you get your new leg soon and have no further issues.

Betadine would be no use
i was not aware of any scratch, but that is how it gets in
if i have visited the tropics that would be a reason, but i some how picked it up either at home or at work
which means the bug is still there

Your pardon if I wasn't meant to spill that, but thanks for sharing that here, Pete! Not many of the old gang still around here, but a few may see, given time.

Btw, I definitely liked that idea of a giant plunger-shaped prosthesis. :D

I'm in a bit of a fix myself, with lower back pain getting worse and worse, and all my usual therapies increasingly failing me. Hoping I can persuade the hospital to give me a cortisone shot until the physical therapy & chiropracty potentially work. Guess I can't afford to have my back lopped off. Sure seems tempting, though!

Sorry to hear you're going through all this. Get well soon buddy.

I thought that the bugs, they were only in pinball machines or games in general:o, or in my strong passion for this hobby (can I cut it one day?) it would be more tempting than Ike's back:lol:

anyway friend I want to cheer you up a little, nor are you going through hard adventures, but I wish you to find your light as soon as possible at the end of this tunnel, that life smiles on.

strength and courage,do not give up in the fight.

Wow, sounds like a horror story to me, I'm so sorry that this happened to you Pete!
Hope both you and Ike will recover.

I was going to try and blame it on 2020, my father died in February, found out last week that my older sister has terminal cancer, just want this year to disappear. Only a few weeks left in the year, hope 2021 is better for everyone.

JPH, 2020 has not made this easy
travel restrictions has meant that my family has not been able to visit until last month
any time i have been in hospital has been visitor free as they would only let family visit
certain parts of rehabilitation were suspended due to the health system focusing on being prepared for any sudden surge in CV19 patients (which never happed locally)

hopefully i will get a leg in January and be able to kick ass again ;)

Wow! I hope you have it all under control now, TMFP. Video shows you looking in pretty good spirits with a pinball table leg attched below your knee. I was always hoping to visit your store and buy a meatpie. NOT!

I am actually in pretty good shape at 67, lots of old-man aches and pains, but I just ignore them and continue on. I've been vaping for maybe 9 years now and after 40 yrs of heavy smoking I think I dodged the bullet and my lungs seem great. I don't have a heart, so no problem there.

Hi Nic and Jon and Steve. I miss you guys, but I don't want to get hooked on VP again. I play Zen pinball now and it is good enough for me when I need to smack some flippers around.

Hello my dear Add a Ball non specialist! Ok, I'm younger (just 65), but it's not the probem. I miss you and your posts. So, come again and again.
Concerning the MOFP, I just know him with defunct VPForum. It's a great VP, follower. All my well wishes!

Hey All!

It's nice to know that @bob is still flipping, happy to know that you are ok, just looked for your pn spidey smilie and it's missing...
I also have Zen but these guys are doing some amazing stuff with FP, it's worth the effort.

Fellow IRP member, love your signature @popotte :salut:.

The site has been a labor of love for me, it's been scary when you don't hear from a User in awhile, might have to introduce a annual check in system. :yikes:

Love hearing from you all, hope we get extra balls and/or replays!

:pimp::rendeer:

I'm hoping that if I reinforce my couch with a heavy wood under-sheet, then replace the cushions with a single memory foam piece, It'll greatly help my recovery. Probably do something similar with my American-style futon mattress, too.

Good to see you drop in, @bob! A month or two ago, Rascal directed me to some gaming location on Steam for you, but I hadn't figured it out yet.

Also, you're one of the authors I wanted to spend more time featuring here, as you did lots of cool originals and pre-VPX stuff. Hopefully hosting your stuff here is okay with you? This is what we have at the moment.

Pardon me fellas, some of my recent posts have been a little... much. A certain pain & med combination, I guess. Fortunately, it looks like I'll be able to manage the back situation for the time-being. It seems to be more muscular/skeletal-related than disc-related, I think.

@TheManFromPOST,
Sorry if I'm hijacking things a bit. I'd indeed like to hear more followup, if possible!

Ike, it is good to touch base again

anyhow, locally, when you loose your right leg you also loose your license to drive
to get it back you have to sit a written exam, a cognitive test (to see if you still have all your marbles) and then a driving test
did the first two then the government shut down license testing due to CV19
7 months later testing started back up
I thought it would be weird driving with the wrong leg, but passed the test easily
i can now though only drive an automatic car that has been converted for left foot drive
the conversion will be done next week and then F R E E D O M !!!!!!

@bob, I'm sharing these in case you happen to drop by again.

Today I accidentally discovered a local artist (Perris Mackey) who makes pop culture and comics collages out of damaged comic books. I've never quite seen this technique before, and am loving it.

@bob

Good old Bob, shame he no longer posts, he seems to be more like Wonder Woman these days, dodging bullets.:p

Then again it seems Wonder Woman does kick the webheads ass.
