How to deal with annoying telemarketers...

One of the most annoying things today is definitely people who keep ringing your phone all day just so they can talk you into buying some crap-product you couldnt care less about.

Well, there are ways to give some of that annoyance right back.

tom mabe... tom mabe... i think that's the guy who drove around town until he saw homeless guys sitting in front of a restaurant or deli. then he would call the place, pretending to be the country sherriff, and asking them to bring some food out to his 'undercover cops' working in front. the homeless guys were were extremely surprised to see that the employee coming out the front door, rather than telling them to get lost, instead presented them with free food and drinks.

Most of the telemarketers in my area use an autodialer with a 20 second pause when you answer the phone before they speak. Maybe the pause is required by California law, I'm not sure, but when I answer with "Hello" and get that long silent pause, I just hang up. I've never had them try calling back. Sometimes I get a pre-recorded intro in the first 20 seconds, so again I hang up.

Do they use the silent pause/recorded intro where you live?

They use the silent pause intro where I live too. I''ve listened to the recording a couple of times and everytime at the end it gives me the option to press 3 and not recieve any more calls. We also have now here the national do not call list in where you sign up and telemarketers are fined $1000 if they call your number.

no, the pause is when they call you, they are also calling 5 other numbers, who ever picks up first get the telemarketer
the delay is the program recognising that you have picked up and putting you through to the caller
