My Bally Joust which was running perfectly has developed a problem

When a game is started , the score reels, player unit etc resets

After everything resets it goes directly into game over

The game over latching relay pulls in but does not release after start up

Any ideas what may be causing this

Thank you

Solution
Problem solved!!

Started looking over some of the other relays
One of the switches on the anti cheat relay was not
Opening when activated

Cleaned ad adjusted it

Running like a top
Upon closer inspection, this what’s going on

Both game over and tilt relays activate when the cam turns, but they both reset after the cams are done turning

They lift up by a finger on the cam then come back to rest

It appears they both pulse, then reset but machine goes right into game over

UPDATE

No problem with the tilt switches

After the game over relay came to rest, I put a little upward pressure on the game over relay. As I did that, the game over light went off and the playfield became active

I also noticed some arching on some of switch contacts

I hoping a good cleaning and gap adjustment will take care of the problem

Great that why its so hard to diagnose a problem over the forum you are your best technician good luck with your game

Took the start relay apart. Cleaned and re gapped
The arcing is gone but the machine still goes into game over

Very frustrating

I had same problem drove me nuts was a small head of a screw in reset bank look for bare wires or sodder touching sounds crazy but all seems good with the start up

Great to hear it enjoy your game now cause it will give you all kinds of crazy problems that why you have to learn and know your machine cause it can cost you a fortune good luck we’ll done

Speaking of anti- cheat relays. Some Bally machines used a flasher lamp in series with the coil. When a slam switch was hit, the relay would be held in until the bulb got hot enough to flicker, releasing the coil.
A 455 bulb is the correct bulb to use, when using a non flicker bulb the coil when energized will not release.

Yes

Joust does have a lamp socket near the front of the relay board as well
