The news just keeps breaking my heart, I've been in 49 of US's states, New Orleans was my favorite city....

I tried to visit for every annual Jazz Fest and the people there are the friendliest I've ever met as a visitor, in any city! I feel bad for the rest of the Gulf Coast..

They need to evacuate the City and provide long term housing (years!) for folks that are homeless...

I don't believe that New Orleans should be rebuilt, changes have to be made, everybody knew this was going to happen someday and if they don't relocate the city or let the Mississippi River flow the way it used to, it will happen again. The levees were a pretty impressive sight for me but engineers knew this was going to happen..., someday.

Cemeteries are above ground there for a reason and bodies are floating.

Thanks for the link, One of my favorites has been WWOZ in New Orleans but they are off the air:

Very sad situation. I never was there, but the influence of their music and food is world reknown. As much as I enjoy Jazz, the wonderful Zydeco sounds from that region always made me wish I'm been a cajun. I wish everyone from those Gulf states the very best.

New Orleans would be my home if my parents and almost all of my family were not here.. , It's hot! The music is the reason I would move, people think Mardi Gras,.... Jazz Fest is for veterans, Mardi Gras is for rookie teenage drunks...Jazz Fest is Blues, Zydeco, Gospel and Jazz!

There used to be incredible music ANY time of the year in the the bayous and city, the music has died along with many friendly folks....

It's hard to believe all the news reports and the pictures from the air. It's going to take years before those people fully recover, if they ever do. It's easy to see all the damage and think that what little we can donate won't help, but every penny helps, and I'm going to donate what I can every month until it's not needed qany longer. I'd urge anyone who can to do the same, because if that sort of thing happened where I'm at, a lot of those victims would do whatever they could to help me.

The worst part of all this are the people down ther who are looting and adding to the problem. I can't begin to imagine living in a shelter for at least endless months. I'm sure they'll rebuild somehow, but I hope they either relocate the city, or at least figure a way to make sure nothing like this can happen again.

Wednesday, August 31, 2005 — When a disaster of the magnitude of Hurricane Katrina strikes and the news broadcasts images of broken, battered and destroyed homes, it is natural for the public to be eager to help their neighbors – whether they’re across town or across the country. Excellent idea Jon, probably your best post ever. I'm donating just because I'm thankful I've never been a victim of either a hurrican or a tornado.

I'm just disgusted with the inept response by the US Government, I saw that FEMA director (Brown) say that they were unaware of the congregation @ the convention center Live on cnn or something. These folks were DIRECTED to go there.

Thank god, (pun intended, Bush said we should pray...a few days ago) Bush cut his LONG vacation short by 2 days and hugged a couple of victims for a photo op today....

I'd much rather send the money directly to the people who need it. As they put on tv, they don't want food donations, they just want the cold hard cash, and 20% or so given to red cross goes to logistics and beaurocracy/paperwork.

....

I agree. That was an eye opener.
When Bush said he was going to sent 10 billion dollars, I thought that was out of line. He should not have even mentioned money, he should have said "we ARE sending ALL the people and resources they need"

Maybe Bush was just being honest for once. I know a few people now that think (conspiracy style) the government PURPOSELY delayed getting aid there early one in hopes that lots of society "undesirables" from the Republican/Rich point-of-view (i.e. the extreme poor and sickly that collect welfare, etc.) would die off in the process. I don't like to be that jaded, but you have to admit they're either totally incompetant (especially in light of all our supposed infrastructure improvements after 911) or just downright EVIL. There is no middle ground. I'd rather think they're incompetant. Yeah, I figured Bush is largely incompetant (I sure as heck didn't vote for him either election). But I had slightly higher hopes for the rest of Congress, despite the very common nature of sheer greed many of them are known for.

Hey y'all seen this 1?

Don't give 2 the red cross - they R thieves, like most 'charities' - the goal is 2 bill the money in 'administration' costs (steal it). Remember 4 instance after 911 they had over a billion - about 3 million PER PERSON killed in the 'attacks'. What did they give out? Hell - so far as I know nothing yet from the Red Cross - maybe 30k each tops - burn the rest in 'administration'. It's like the 'defense' industry - it's like government. Government is just overgrown mafia figuring out new tricks 2 steal from U. Asside from roads, they do nothing. They certainly don't defend our borders - not only do they steal from U, they charge U 4 the 'service' of robbing U as they rob U LOL

People R corrupt. New Orleans was flooded on purpose - only the cheap areas were hit (that should tell U something right there). Trump wants 2 rennovate that area, so they flooded out the rats, rather like how WTC control was transferred 2 Silverstein B 4 the 911 thing. It's a big game. Trump was probably like 'hey let me get in on this staged event gravy train' LOL Flood out the monkeys, tear it down, buy it cheap, sell it high :) That's reality.
