Been laughing about this on another forum, a scene from one of those cheesy monster of the week movies on sy-fy.

If you don't have the budget for blanks, just tell the actor to keep pulling the trigger and put some cheap CGI muzzle flashes in. Don't even bother to pretend to reload. Hilarious:

Where can I get me a pair of 400 shot pistols? damn he shot more bullets thanCharlie Sheen in Hot Shots 2! (where he was standing in the boat with the bullet cartridges up to his waist) wow no gun jams either what a remarkable weapon there! what they don't mention is that to load it takes about 1 week :D

That guns is very very bad.
Maybe he should have used a Fly-Back paddle?

ah, good stuff. part of the reason i enjoy a nice bollywood film from time to time.

i really liked the idea (from "what's up tiger lily?") of taking bad films and dubbing in even more ridiculous dialogue. but for some reason only MST3000 ran with that AFAIK... although only partly, since they didn't dub. of course there was that hilarious series "mad movies" on nick at nite about 20 years ago, in which they took 'classic' films like danny kaye's "the inspector general", shortened it, and dubbed in a completely different storyline.

dunno why there aren't more films like that...

If you liked MST3K, Mike, Bill, and Kevin started doing movie and short riffing again about 2 years ago, now they sell an mp3 file you play along with the DVD of the movie. Most of them are only a couple of bucks, shorts are only a buck. I've actually got a shelf of movies I picked up on sale just because they riffed on it. Their site is rifftrax.com Their forum is great, it's where we were laughing about the magic guns clip.

The rest of the MST3K cast started a different company recently and is selling DVDs of movies but they've only got a handful released and I think only a few are really funny. They are cinematictitanic.com

yeah......so did I.
I think there was more fun in 1972 when the local public radio station broadcast a Tiger Lily-type live "simulcast" of the Nixon GOP Convention. In more recent times there have also been similar live radio "simulcasts" of the Rose Parade in order to provide a more suitable commentary. Just turn off your t.v. sound, turn up the radio soundtrack, and you are good to go.

@marty,
cool. so i guess i could listen to the MP3 on my sansapod while i watched the movie. although when listening with others i would have to use the tinny little speaker on the unit. or maybe jack it into the nearby stereo.

so is there a 'best of' list of movies the three guys dubbed?

@sleepy,
apparently that's also what "l.a. connection", the guys who made "mad movies", are doing these days. a movie will be shown in a theater, the soundtrack turned off, and the comedy troup will generate all the dialogue and the sounds (i assume they're standing out of view). here is their site for schedule / show times and here are some movies they regularly perform:

The Blob
BATMAN (1966)
Reefer Madness
Wrestling Women Vs. the Aztec Mummy
The Woman in Green
Cat Women on the Moon
Plan 9 from Outer Space

(the theater is in sherman oaks... not sure how easy it would be for you to get there)

@comedically dubbed movies,
just starting to look around youtube and the net. here's a pretty funny harry potter series by brad neely, called "wizard people, dear reader":

Because you need to hear the movie audio along with their commentary, I often use my iPod plugged into little powered computer speakers.

They also have a player for the PC, you download a different file format and it mixes the DVD and rifftrax for you. When you purchase you get all file formats so you can download all the ones you need.

Or you if you have the right software you can rip the audio from the DVD and mix it yourself, then remix it with the video.

Tough call on what's their best, I really like some of the better movies they have done like Star Wars ep.IV and Indiana Jones. Since what they sell doesn't contain any audio from the DVD, it's just their voices, they don't have to pay for rights so they've done a lot of big blockbusters. The good movies they tend to make jokes along with the movie instead ofmaking fun of the movie.

Some of the bad movies (IMO) that they make watchable: Battlefield Earth, Eragon, Cloverfield...

For shorts, there's one called "drugs are like that" 16 minutes of side splitting comedy, it's an anti drug short from the 70s with 2 kids and it makes very little sense. The shorts really shine, and are cheap, but can be big downloads since they are video files.

Nic, if you're up on your newsgroups, try searching for Rifftrax on Binsearch or Newsleech. Uploaders are kind enough to synch the movies up with Mike, Kevin and Bill's commentary. One of the best ones they've done so far is "The Room". This film has gained its own cult following for being completely horrible, and the Rifftrax is pretty hilarious. If you can stomach watching Star Trek V again, that Rifftrax is pretty decent, too. Oh, and the new one for the funniest movie ever made: Red Dawn! RIP Patrick Swayze... you saved America from the godless Communists. Wolverines, indeed.

If you get one that way, please go over to the Rifftrax site and give them a few bucks using the "donate" button. Got to support them so they will keep making more. They only charge 3 or 4 dollars for a 2 hour audio file.

I keep forgetting Red Dawn is out, another DVD I'll have to look for on sale. Not sure I can bring myself to buy a copy of The Room.

Maybe Rifftrax should strike a deal with Netflix or Blockbuster Online to sync their custom soundtracks to online movie viewing?

Hmm, my guess would be they would have copyright issues, since they would be selling a modified soundtrack. They can't appear to be selling any part of the original movie.

Maybe they could come up with a technological work around, send out 2 streams and have software on the receiving end mix them like the rifftrax player does for the DVD and audio file on your PC. They are currently working on a VLC player options to mix the DVD and MP3 files...

The reason a lot of MST3K episodes are not out on DVD, and may never be released is the copyright holders of the movies want too much in royalties, or simply refuse. They had limited time, broadcast only rights to a lot of the movies they did. They made fun of Sandy Frank so much that the episodes with godzilla movies will never be out on DVD because he hates them (except for the one Rhino put out by mistake and had to recall).

The shorts they do are public domain, and several movies that Legend Films has the rights to have been done and can be downloaded as disk images to burn yourself (or buy the DVD for a few more bucks), Plan 9 is one, Planet of Dinosaurs is a newer release, a terrible movie and is a great Rifftrax.

thanks for the info, guys!

watched the rifftrax samples for the room, indiana jones and battlefield earth. (they were able to work out the licensing for samples, eh?) gonna pass for now, although maybe on of their other productions will grab me in the future. fact is i was never a big MST3K fan, since if there's gonna be talking over a movie, i'd prefer to do it with my friends rather than listening to others do it.

so yea, i guess i remain a fan of the completely dubbed stuff... one of the reasons watching badly-dubbed kung fu films is such a treat.

Well, if you were not a fan of MST3K then Rifftrax might not be for you. But they are professional joke tellers, very funny guys.

I loved MST3K, so glad the guys are back.
