Gottlieb Seven Seas (Gottlieb, 1960) Score Motor Keeps Running

I'm a newby with a 1960 Gottlieb Seven Seas two player EM pinball machine. When I turn the power switch to ON and press the credit button, the machine is dead. If I manually turn the score motor counter-clockwise with the credit button pushed in, the score motor activates, the score reels reset to zero, but the score motor runs continuously. If I press the reset bank solenoid plunger, the motor stops and the game plays normally, either in 1 or 2 player modes. If I try to play another game, upon pressing the credit button, the reels reset to zero, but again, the score motor keeps on running. The credit wheel always shows credits. Any ideas?

The machiene may show credits because it has been modified for free play. One of the ways to do this is to prevent the free play counter from reaching zero.

If the score motor is continually running the most likely cause is either a score reel is stuck and not reaching zero or one of the zero switches on one of the score reels is not making contact. There are othe reasons but that is the most common.
