my afterburner cabinet is no longer functioning.

Nothing at all happens so I suspect a power supply issue - it doesn't move, it doesn't shake, it doesn't have any power to the screen, it makes no noise whatsoever. It just sits there being dead.

Kind of depressing that all I can do right now is sit in it and make believe something is on the screen.

Drowning my sorrows now, will look into fixing it later. Maybe just maybe I have a spare powere pack to fit it.

Yeah - I know its a matter of who gives a damn so why post it.... But you know howi it is.

Is it shakin yet?

If it is the power supply, that's easy to fix at the component level, (unless its a switching ps.)

Do the visual and smell test.
If your lucky, and I'm sure you've thought of it already... but maybe just a connection had shaken loose.

thanks for the suggestion - I had thought of that - and I haven't had the time (or the energy - it weighs a freaking ton!) to pull it out from the corner off the game rooms so I can get a look at the guts ;)

So it's not shakin yet. I've got a little cog to replace in the control stick because of the amount of shakin it did while it was working thoguh ;)

I am fairly sure from memory it has a power distribution box that is like a chunky power board inside to split the mains power to screen/gameboards via psu/shakin'bits - the fact NOTHING gets power implies the problem might be around about there somewhere. Loads of nice little wires that could come loose down there!

Commiserations. :sob:

I think you're right about the PS. 90% of H/W problems stem from badly arranged or missing electrons....

If _nothing_ has power you're probably in luck. Your cabinet's PS is like a tree from which branches stem. The closer to the trunk the problem is, the easier to fix (unless the trunk explodes taking the branches with it which is unlikely since it is sooooo cheap to design-in current sensing circuits to protect downstream components - these days it takes a fairly sizeable EMP to blow _everything_ in an AC to multi DC voltage converter....).

I've haven't heard of a switch-mode power supply made from discrete components since the 80's. If the Switch Mode chip(s) is(are) blown you're really in luck since they're cheap and easy to identify as dead by smelling them as suggested above. Ok they have a few control components around them but not many.

Then again all those little wires......

Better you than me mate!

ROFLMAO! Egg on face, bright red blushing cheeks and majorly embarressed lol.

Seriously - you wont believe what was wrong.

Yes, I now have flashing red lights and dogfighting goodness.

Finally got around to dragging this hulking great cabinet out from the corner of the room. There is an access panel on the back, angled about 30 degrees so that if it is not locked, it falls open. Against the cab was placed a lounge. That hatch had come open, leaving a gapabout the right squeeze width for a certain small furry feline. From the arm of said lounge, about one feline arms reach in and convinient as a step when climbing to the warm interior on a frozen winters evening, is a large flat lever toggle switch, attached to the main power distribution panel.

That switch was in the off position.

Good thing I didn't call out an expert to look at it huh?

So you're a cat lover too, eh?

My Queen's knocked up again...

Nice Ant, LOL, another good cat story for the books. :0 ...with a happy ending to top if off.

Cats are good at adding a little humorous mischief to one's life. Here's another story of how a cat can make fools of us humans ...at least of me.
I once rescued a crow chasing feline from atop a three story house. He had gone missing for three days. Three days of blistering heat and thunderstorms, we eventually found him perched on the hot tar shingles too scared to climb down. From the edge of the roof, I first tried calling him to me with no luck. Coaxing him with a pork chop, the cat finally came to me, grabs my sacrificial dinner, then proceeds to run back to his safe spot only to drop it. Both the cat and I could only watch as our dinner roll down the steep roof and fall to it's second death. I then shimmied out along the peak. Now within reach but needing both my hands to return to the ladder, I placed the dehydrated, sun burnt cat on my shoulders. Immediately I felt my flesh penetrated with his death grip. He was not letting go. The sensation of ten sharp claws buried in my back over powered my fear of heights and amazingly made it much easier to quickly climb back down. Once down on solid ground, it still took awhile for the poor freaked out cat to let go. LOL, The things we do for love.

Oh that's a sad news indeed. I hope it will be fixed soon by someone.

Good luck!
