Gottlieb Sure Shot (Gottlieb, 1976) trouble...

Hi there. This is my first time posting here as I am new to the site. Was looking through some of the threads and topics and found it to be full of information. I am also new to pinball. The reason for my post is that I have a Gottlieb Sure Shot machine that was given to me from my grandmother and I seem to be having some troubles with it. When I plug in the machine, the backbox lights up but not the playfield. I lifted the playfield up and was looking around and checking contacts and connections with a test light and still cant seem to find the problem. Im slowly learning about the relays and how they work with each other as well the tilt, but still cant seem to find what im missing or what is wrong with it . Was hoping someone on here would be able to assist me in figuring out what the problem is. thanks.

What year is the machine?

Looks like this machine is totaly EM, Electro-mechanical. 1976?

Are any of the relays working that are attached to the bottom of the play field ? - if not you probibly have a bad ground connection comming off of the play field, allot of current runs through the ground connection, check the pins that connect the playfield to the bottom control unit and check for burnt pins or wires that have come off.

On some of these units i am not sure on yours, the playfield lights will not come on untill the unit is coined. If this is the case you may have a bad contact on the game over relay. This is where a good schematic would help.

A good way to diagonse a bad ground is to use a volt meter set on ac (if it is an ac unit most older em's are), find the common wire on the secondary of the power transformer connect one of your probes there. Connect the other probe to any light bulb terminal check to see if you get 6 volts, if so and the light bulb and socket are ok - it is a bad ground. If not then you have an issue with The 6 volt line or control relay that is controling the bulb.
