All ~1000 threads in this section have now been prefix-tagged so as to make everything easier to find. Details below.

To put this in perspective, there were already "custom tags" that anyone can add, just under the thread title. Here's an example of four custom tags in a thread header: (bolded, in blue)
Bally Scared Stiff: crate door
Thread starter robnor1 . Start date Apr 3, 2010 . Tags daughter board, led, potentiometer, sensor
The point of having these is that you can click or tap on any those tags and you'll be taken to a list of all the threads that share those tags.

What recently changed is that @JonPurpleHaze added prefixes (special tags, basically) that can appear right before the thread title ("Bally" in the text above is just such an example). Like tags, these can be used to group threads together. Here's the current list of such prefix-tags:
Pinball Manufacturers
Bally
Chicago Coin
Data East
Game Plan
Genco
Gottlieb
Rock-ola
Sega
Stern
United
Williams
Zaccaria

Other Prefixes
Repair
Maintenance
Upgrade/Project
Electro-Mechanical
Solid State
Bingo
Bowler
Flipperless
Pitch and Bat
Support File

You can scroll through the complete list yourself from various places, for example from near the top of any page in the Maintenance & Repair sub. Clicking on "(No prefix)" will open up said list.

You can also click, tap or filter (filters appear near the top-right of a page) on any of the categories, anyplace you see such tags. For example, if you clicked on "Upgrade/Project," you'd be taken to the appropriate matching list of threads.

Do let us know if you have any suggestions regarding this project. Also, feel free to add your own custom tags to threads. It's fun!

So, a secondary project I'm working on is to mark all ~1000 threads "solved" or "unsolved" as appropriate. The value of this is that all such threads can be instantly grouped together, forming an index for people to consult (in the case of "solved"), or even a list of challenges to answer (in the case of "unsolved").

At the moment I've gone through a fifth of the whole section, marking accordingly. But it's kind of slow work, in case anyone's interested in lending a hand. If not, no worries; I'll probably get it done... eventually. :s

.

CURRENT TALLY: The oldest 11 pages ( 38-48 ) of threads have now been tagged "solved" or "unsolved" as appropriate. Those left untagged don't have a clear resolution, usually because the OP didn't comment further after suggestions were made.

I think this thread can be unsticked now, having served its purpose. Big thanks to @xenonph for finishing up the work of tagging threads "solved" and making sure all threads in this section have maker prefixes. :-D

See the Repair guides, previous solutions, and other tools thread for a list of the tagged solutions.

There are 1000+ threads in this section, and a few here and there were probably missed when it comes to handing out solutions credit. Feel free to point out any we missed, so they can be added!
