So what Win7 are you using. (Or going to use?)

Any thoughts you would like to share?

Dont be shy and tell us what you think about Microsofts latest OS

None of the above all DRM embedded OSes are shit.

Thats the link i posted some time ago.

And yes, i have read the entire thing, (which you have to if you really want to understand the whole situation), and i agree that it is very shitty of MS to do something like this. But still time goes on and unless you dont care for new progs and apps you cannot run XP forever. Thats the problem, so unless all software companies take a sudden turn towards Linux (which will never happen) there is little you can do,...

It's not up to software companies to turn to Linux, it's up to the populous at large to do so, the software companies will then have to follow.

Either way Linux development continues at a pace with new apps and progs being created and updated almost daily.

I refuse to use or support DRM embedded OSes, you should also do so, unless of course you are happy to pay extra for less freedom.

You are absolutely right Steve, but its not going to happen.

Its a typical Egg/Hen Scenario, for the one thing to happen the other has to happen first.

(Catch-22 anyone?)

Refusing to take part is one solution, but its not a solution for everyone. (At least not a long-run one.) Because some things will never run on Linux, so unless you are prepared to give up on these things forever, what else can you do but to use Windows? Likewise, some things will not only run on Windows only, but also only on newer versions of Windows. So again, unless you are prepared to pass on these things, what can you do but to use a newer Windows?

Of course this being-forced is crap deluxe, but MS know that the users have no choice. Thats why they can get away with this, which of course makes the whole thing even worse but doesnt touch the fact that there will be no alternative,...

It's just like M$ to lock themselves into their own environment and force everyone else to use their product, that BTW, uses a 21 year old kernal.

I´ll wait SP2!

TBH, I'll probably be sticking with XP until a nice Service Pack comes out and it's safe/easier to pirate (MS ain't getting money from me, that's for sure!).

The McD

This might sound crazy but.....like any other "new" OS, I'll wait until the bugs are out and it is stable. Then....I'll probably rebuild my rig to a dual boot system to run XP and Win7. Hopefully that way, I won't lose any software like I did when upgrading to XP. Besides...XP is running so well for me right now. The most stable OS I've had since having a computer.

I am currently running the Release Candidate and have to say that I am impressed so far. I have not had any issues with software not running. VPM tables run decent. I have to turn off some of the GI effects but I had to do the same with XP. It seems to have all of the bells and whistles of Vista but without the overhead.

I only glitch that I see come up is when installing some software program, after the installer closes, I get a Windows message that the program may not have installed correctly and recommend reinstalation in compatibility mode. I have not had to restall any of them they all worked fine.

I have Windows XP, but after that I won't upgrade to any version of Windows, instead I will write a Linux distribution. If I need to run Windows programs that won't work with Linux, maybe it can use Wine, or a virtual machine with ReactOS, or virtual machine with Windows XP, or something else.

zzo38: Try Virtual Box. It's just It's like Virtual PC, but it can run multi- OS, Like OS10, Win 3.1 and Linux all on one computer. And it doesn't hog up resources.

Seems to be lots of conflicting reports on how much it will cost, huge discounts if you pre-order now, guess you could save the package and install after the bugs are worked out and a service pack is released...

Still I'll probably wait until I absolutely have to upgrade.... Win98 lasted for me up until XP SP2, so hope I can hold out that long again.

Quick note before i go offline:

Its been cracked. (Or lets just say "A Way Has Been Found".)

The same OEM method that worked on Vista works with 7 too.

Seems like MS is totally helpless against this form of exploit, and the funny part is, it is part of their own distribution model.....

i'd like to register a complaint,
i went to vote for "fuck windows, i only use Linux" but that option was missing! :(
