This seems like the best emulator on earth but I just cant get it to work :(

I followed the install guide and installed pinmame and then vpm, created all the directories, told it where to look for the roms but when i run VPM(for example for fish tales), it says it cant find the necessary files even though i dloaded fish tales and put them in the proper rom folder?!?!? I checked the path and its searching for the roms in c:/vpinmame/roms which is where they are and the files even match. I just dont understand what i'm doing wrong? I wish there was a simpler install as I feel like there's something missing. Any help would be appreciated, I'm dying to play all these tables!!!!

If you are running Win Vista, or Win 7, be sure to run VP as admin.

(right click vp exe, and choose run as admin)

You need to extract the .vpt table file from it's zipped folder into the tables folder and then you need to also have the correct fish tales Rom in the Rom folder and the Rom file must remain zipped.

I'm running windows vista and that didnt seem to solve it. I downloaded them both from pinmame.com, are there newer versions i'm not aware of? It cant be something that major but the error it gives is this:

shtl_5.rom NOT FOUND
ft_u18.l1 NOT FOUND
SOUND WAS DISABLED DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH SOUND ROMS

yet those top 2 files are in the roms folder and the path is set to the rom folder... i am lost?

tables folder? I dont see a tables folder and the pinmame instructions didnt say anything about creating a tables folder, only a rom folder?

This isn't really MAME, here we create a Visual Pinball table with Visual Pinball and then use the ROM to control the VPM pinball table.

im figuring this out now... I downloaded the visualpinball pack from this site and downloaded a table and put the proper file in the tables folder, changed to run as admin but when i extract it tells me i need admin status. I found a way around it and copied the table into the folder but when i went to play i just see the table pop up with nothing else.

man am i lost :(

:welcome1:Install as admin, run as admin.
I have Vista Home Premium, works soft as silk here.
Just follow the instruction of the install pack.Good luck!

I just did that, and maybe i'm just not computer literate enough because its still not working. I dloaded the whole program, then dloaded a table from this site. I unzipped the file but all it has is the icon of a pinball with the file, which i extracted into the tables folder. I then load the visual pinball and open the machine where it appears on the screen as a drawing to edit. I hit play and it gives me some "cant find these" paramaters and then the picture of the machine comes up and thats as far as i get. Do i need anything else other than the visual pinball pack that i downloaded from the main page of this site? i'm about to give up but the goal of being able to play all these beautiful tables is making me keep trying.! >(

You now have the table file in the right place, but it sounds like you still need the ROM or correct ROM for the table you have. It helps if you tell us what table and version number, maybe even the table author, then the exact wording of the error messages, then someone can always help you.

I really appreciate it, but I think this is too hard for me. I even followed the youtube video to the T and cant get it to work properly. When following the guys tutorial it got all the way to putting the wav files in the "samples" folder and i realized i had no samples or roms folder. I tried with baby pac man and downloaded both the table and the rom and was able to see the table and a ball catch on the upper playfield, along with a nudge but nothing else. Before playing when I tried to run it, it said there were about 8 files it was looking for that were not found. Either this is WAY complicated or i'm just that dumb... i dont know :(

Are you sure you have the correct ROM file and you left it zipped. Rom files have to remain zipped.

I tried with the addams family and kept the rom zipped, dloaded the H4 version and when i went to play it, it even asked which version to which i selected "h4" and it told me there were a couple files missing and voila... i can see the machine, hit the plunger and nudge but nothing else.

I definitely made sure it stayed zipped.

If anyone would like to walk me through this on the phone, i'd totally appreciate it and start over. This is a nightmare :(

Don't give up, someone will be able to help you.

There are many tables that don't use ROMs, try this link and download this VP table and place it in your table's folder and then hit play and 5 for credits and 1 to start a game. This table should work for you as it is from the 70's and doesn't use a ROM. If it works, then we know you are doing everything correctly for Visual Pinball and then we just need to get your PinMame stuff setup properly.

that one is playing just fine actually! its nice to know i'm close! is there any way to make the machine bigger in the window? So i guess anything that involves a rom is where the issues are?

We always want to run the tables in Full Screen. At the top of the VP editor, click on Preferences, then click on Video Options, make sure the box for full screen is checked and then choose your monitor resolution from the list there, it's best to use your desktop resolution. The tables are made for a 4x3 resolution, if you have a widescreen monitor, you might try to find your settings for putting black bars on the side or just play them in the stretched view as many people seem to do that.

I never used the Install Pack, so I don't know anything about it.

Look in your PinMame folder, you'll find a file called setup, click on it and then click on Setup Paths. In the pic below it shows mine and it shows the path where I have the ROMs stored, so PinMame can find them. Check yours and see if it is set to the right path for your Rom folder.

awesome! that worked perfect!

now to figure out how to make the SS machines work...

About Addams Family, go to www.ipdb.org and search for The Addams Family.
When you find it, download the PinMAME ROM for The Addams Family.
Sounds like you need to download the Parent ROM. In this case, all other ROMs for the table are dependent on the Parent ROM being in the Roms folder. This happens more frequently with MAME video game ROMs than with pinball ROMs, but it still happens.

Try downloading The Addams Family PinMAME Romsets (L5) and (L6).
One of those is the parent ROM.
