Warning given to Shockman

As stated in our rules, all staff actions will be posted openly for our members to see. I sent the following PM to Shockman overnight, and he has read and replied to it.

Consider this an official warning, which might also be called a D/A. I have had to split more posts and move them to your AJ, back in the saddle again thread. We can't let you tell members to suck you, and you are using fucking this and fucking that way too much. You can't keep posting hostile messages to vpf staffers outside of the two threads where those kinds of comments have been restricted to. None of this is stuff you have to agree to or with, these are admin decisions.

Here are our forum rules:

1> No hacking.
2> No porn.
3> No personal abuse
4> No spamming.
Note: The above rules are open to interpretation by the staff, but all staff actions will be publicly announced.

You have attacked and repeatedly cursed vpf staffers, and other PN members, to the extent that it has become personal abuse. Your continued profanity and sexual comments could be considered porn, since there is so much of it, directed at so many people.

I have done my best to allow you to have your say, but you continue to question and debate me. You have even made an issue out of a non-issue, with the signature thing. If you continue to post excessive profanity or attacks on any members of PN anywhere, or post comments to or about VPF staffers outside of the two threads I have limited you to, you may well end up with a one week ban. I will see if there's a way to make it Read Only, but so far R/O access isn't possible, only banning.

You need to find other ways to vent your anger and hostility. We simply can't allow you to continue posting in the manner you have been recently.

I agree with public posting of D/As. The staff at VPF gave me R/Os all the time and lied to the membership about it and said that I got no D/As but one old thing that had to do with "something else"

To not lock this kind of thread is just not right, but very mean and about the best tool for rekindling the emotoin that I can think of. Don't let that stop you from posting in it though, I guess that's what it's for.

I'll say it again, we don't lock threads here. And if we were to lock every thread you post in so no one could post a reply that might upset you, we might as well lock them all and close our doors. I would hope that nobody purposely tries to incite your anger, but I think you need to lighten up also. It's obvious that Bob's post is humorous, based on his standard posting style. While you may not agree, I think the posts in this thread are simply poking good natured fun at you.

The best way to show up anyone who you consider to be less than friendly is to ignore their posts. Prove that you're better than they are, by not stooping to their level. I've never much cared what anyone might say of think about tiltjlp, because that's just an Internet identity. I know who I am, and like myself enough that some clown in a pinball forum who dumps on me usually makes me laugh.

I do understand how you feel nic, which is why I've been trying to reason with Shockman about the content and tone of many of his posts. While the one above this one still is about the same topic, at least it's both calmer and civil. At the present time, maybe that is the best that can be hoped for.

Personally, I'm against bans that have no expiration date. I mean Shockey hasn't been banned for a month or a even a year, he's basically been told to fuck off. I think he should have been given a length of time that he was to be banned over. I mean Nicky returned (different screenname) and posted and no one wanted to take action. Seriously, how hard is it to ban someone every 6 months or so if they fuck up again. I'm not saying SHocky shouldn't be banned from VPF, but he was told if he continued..... He would be confined to the AC, yes, I read those posts. So let's give him a 6 month ban, starting from the time he was banned last and maybe he'll finally STFU.

I've seen no behavior here that would make me change my vote on his ban. It's like a convict coming up for parole and spitting on his parole officer. IMO the more venom he spits, the longer he extends the ban. Until he stops assaulting the VPF staff every chance he gets, there's never even going to be consideration of lifting the ban.

That's basically been my suggestion to Shockman. Not to forget it happened, but to stop posting about it. To my way of thinking, he's simply hurting his cause by posting about it endlessly. Let's hope that calm and civil posting is the 1st step on the yellow brick road to a happier forum life for one and all.

He's been told his ban is forever, what do you want him do? He certainly isn't going to say thanks guys and be pleasant about it. I agree that he's killing this place and his chances for return at VPF, but I remember a time when lots of us were in the same boat and we spoke rather harshly about the staff also. It's not a picnic to be told you're not wanted anymore. Personally, I picked the one person who I thought was responsible and then brow beat the hell out of her. In other words, I thought I was never going to get back in anyway, so what did it matter what I said.... Anyway, I don't believe in permanent bans, but I don't have a vote.

I understand what you're saying, but the point remains that if there ever were a chance that the staff would change their minds, the constant assaults would ruin it. I wouldn't be opposed to reinstatement in the future (and I speak only for me), but all of this extra curricular stuff just makes it so that a reinstatement conversation never even gets thought about, never mind seriously considered.

Sounds like a vicious circle to me.... You guys say he's dead meat.... He says he'll kill you.... I say you can have the same thrill again in 6 months by banning his ass if he steps on the line. I mean, how much work is it to deactivate an account? I also think 6 months is too long, but then I'm just an old softie. I'd suggest 1 month from today if he STFU and then the next offense would be 2 months and then just add a month each time. One month is a looooonnngg ass time to be away from something that you enjoy. You must remember that it's not entirely his fault that the staff didn't step up and D/A him each and every time he deserved it. Did he receive 2 R/O's as stated in the Guidelines?

First Offense - Warning
Second Offense - Warning
Third Offense - Read Only status for one week
Fourth Offense - Read Only status for two weeks
Fifth Offense - Banned from this site

And I hate the loophole that jumps straight to being banned for doing something detrimental to the site, that's a BS loophole and everyone knows it.

Also, I feel a little responsible, since I'm the one that told him ALL previous D/A's were erased, even if it was just a joke, but it went right over his head like a flock of geese.

Bob makes a lot of sense I think. Cyber threats are so laughable, they should never be taken seriously. If the powers that be at vpf were to give Shockman a time frame in which he would be unbanned if he didn't mention vpf or his ban, or posted hostile, unfriendly comments directed at any vpf staffer, past or present, just maybe he would be able to move on. It's not like he's a lurker or a leech, he's an author, and has been and is a helpful member of the portions of the VP community he has access to currently. BTW, I've received 2 or 3 cyber death threats since I've been in VP, and I'm still ticking.

Besides working on what could be the best bowler game in VP, he has helped fix countless images for me, has done partial redraws without me asking, and might be teaming up with me on some tables I can't do myself becasue of vision issues. It's not like he's the monster of the midway, just another pinhead who lost his cool. Forever is a heck of a long time, and can lead to a festering frstration. You've ignored the fact that Nicky started posting again, which proves nothing is permanent. And Shockman is a far sight better, at least in MNSHO, than Nicky will ever be.

Just my 2 cents worth. Besides, the BS that two other members of vpf have been involved in for what seems like forever is at least as irritating, if not more so, than anything I read that Shockman posted at vpf. And if any vpf staffer doesn't know who I mean, just ask.

You know, if VPF staffers went strictly by their guidelines, then Wrechien and Mitchell would both be banned. I think they both received more than 2 R/O's, I may be wrong, but I did read some staffroom threads while I was in there.

I still think Nic, The Loafer and Lio were/are all excellent admins.... They are people people and people people are hard to find. The rest of us are just dumbasses.

I've got one D/A at VPF in all the years I was helping out there. I tought it was more, but the staff say's just one. The staff said that anything said at other places would stay at other places.
I don't believe what is said is grounds anyway, but what is done. And I DID nothing but give them tables, fixes, and tricks. My first table, I did everything in the current state of the art that would apply to it and released it as well as explained what was done and how you could do it also.
I DID nothing. I SAID a few things. I said the if a post insults a member and is offencive to the member then it should be edited, but I said that last, the staff and their guidlines said it first. I said that it is not right to take a post someone made, on topic and in the right place and move it out of that thread and out of context, and into a place that is made for conflict and make it look like a thread that I started there was wrong. AND IT IS, and the post is no longer there in that form, last I was able to see. Like the lase issus, the staff has said the same thing. I told the staff that if they saw the post that said AJ should get on the ball then they could delete it, they lied and said they never delete posts.
I was set up. I don't need you all to form a concences to believe that and neither do you, do you?
My 6 months (that I never agreed to) was up. Strings were broken. I said nothing about the past till then, and even then, and even after it was brought up, as it always is and when I react to it, it's me. I can't let it go. It's BS.

Six months is too long.
One month with time served is too long if it has been 29 days.

My reaction to this after being banned has no place in a discussion on whether it was rightous or not.
