What music are you listening to?

I, myself, would love to see this become a music piracy thread! My pirate ship of choice is Soulseek. It started in the late '00s, and still uses the old Napster technology of file sharing. Ever since the record companies have given up suing downloaders, it's become a place with a pretty reliable library of anything you could possibly want. While the majority of my library is .mp3, I've downloaded a lot of .flacs from there, because they sound awesome on headphones! One of my favorites is a Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab remastered version of Elton's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, in all its pristine aural glory.
Yes, Ike, I have done my time with The Shaggs! They were pretty popular on '80s college radio!

PS: For anyone with an mp3 collection, MP3 Gain is a must-have! I've been using it for years!

I refuse to talk about music quality though. It's way worse than VP vs FP wars.. ok, maybe on par :D

Allow me however to suggest APO Equalizer with the PEACE frontend if you listen to music on a PC/Laptop. Not the easiest to work with but it is usually the case with the good stuff.

@TheManFromPOST,
The song itself didn't do much for me, but cool video! I wish there were more classy arcade / gaming - themed videos like that.

Here's my all-time favorite in that category: (I dig the carnie / nostalgic element too)

Got to agree with ike there @TheManFromPOST good video clip, so so music, so I just had to go look see and found this. :lolsign:

Who doesn't like a bit of Johnny Cash and this aint Johnny, but damn this clown can sing. ?

Bah!

But yeah, as a semi-rookie site admin (yes, with a necessarily different way of thinking than "mister .b") I suppose I lost this battle as far back as... when Millennials roamed the Earth as the "new kids?"

Ah, but WAIT! Now hole on their pard...!
Maybe you're really just trying to surreptitiously suggest someone's special sauce?

(oh well... who am *I* to judge the overwhelmingly visceral process of... "aesthetics?" :D)

re: FLACs,
is there something about FLACs that make them inherently better than MP3s, or is it moreso that they tend to average a higher quality across the package? Any idea there, matey?

Oh dear lord... Rhyme in Rove!!
It's a real Scooby-Doo moment!! (wait... or is it Astro from the Jetsons?)

Seriously, WHERE in tarnation did you find THAT one, Steve?!

That be... that be... surely one of the best things I've seen / heard in... ages, really. <3

Are we really going to compare the clown to the Who?

About flac's, see this thread and then scroll down 1 post for tests from last year.

I'd like to see the videos and tunes in this thread added to the Media section as well, love the videos and tunes!

Found some 10cc (Greatest Hits 1972-197x) on my hard drives in flac, might work?

Maybe ya all are missing the pun, "who" knows? :rasta:

Now for an old Oz classic.

Official music video for "To Her Door", the first single from Paul Kelly's 1987 album Under the Sun.

Speaking of 10cc, I really loved their classic "I'm not in Love."

But if I ever do construct a primitive, rough-hewn stone temple to a cover song, it will likely be to the incredible Chrissie Hynde version. Bonus pts (I suppose) for it being used in the hit film "Indecent Proposal" (1993).

Basically they're faithful to the source hence the higher quality.

It's like having a vinyl record but then play it through a cheap setup - hence why I don't have vinyl setup :( - so I'll ask you this: can you hear the difference on your audio setup? If not, save yourself the the space FLAC requires on your harddrive.

Regarding music I can go from Jean-Michel Jarre to Steve Vai to Prokofiev a couple of hours so i'm not quite sure what to post here :D

Maybe the first music of the first vinyl record i've ever listened to and made such a mark that even now electronic music is my favourite genre and I'm fortunate to own a few JMJ records. Not far from full discography for sure and I have to take care of that one of these days :)

Thanks for the tunage. Been a while since I listened to some JMJ!

In terms of electronic, I'm a bit more in to ambient, lounge & trip hop, but there's a lot of overlap.

Thanks also for the answer about FLACs. Yeah, I can hear the difference on my pricey wireless Bose, altho even moreso just with low-cost wireless ear buds! Still, it's not a significantly-large gap to me, aided by the fact that my storage space is running a bit low these days. (a true slacker's complaint if there ever was one)

There you have it :)

Regarding electronic as long it's not trap or dubstep or whatever it is called theses days is fine by me. Depends on the day but I usually prefer higher tempos in trance or techno.

Wow! AudioGalaxy! I almost forgot all about them! I discovered so many hipster '90s rock bands on there... Death Cab for Cutie, The New Pornographers, Sorry About Dresden... they had some great stuff!
That APO Equalizer is something else! I love a good equalizer, but that one may be beyond my meagre abilities! The Realtek sound cards usually have a relatively decent equalizer included. For some reason, they keep it rather hidden and you have to hunt for it, but it's a nifty 10-band equalizer. I'm really gonna have to take a look at that APO thing. That's something else!

@Ike... the .flac files are usually a good deal larger than .mp3 files, which is a drawback, but the sound is uncompressed and that really can make an aural difference. I usually only go for flacs if the album is a recent remaster or one of those Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab recordings. Those sound absolutely amazing!

This is from one of the best flac remasters I've come across, from a vinyl source, I think. Tom Waits always offers plenty of earhole fireworks!

^ "Aural difference" <- awesome description. People just talk about frequencies not heard and forget that they matter because you can feel them and "see" them on the stage created. All the difference between looking at a wall and being in front of an orchestra :D

Thanks for the flac. @LeeVanCleef I'll be sure to hear it later in the day. I'm already imagining great dynamic range and proper stereo separation/mixing for a good stage in font of me :)

Time for a drum off! :rockband::drummer:

As a matter of fact, I saw them play that song live at a very small club in West Philly, maybe early to mid-90's. I think two of the founding members (Don Wilson & Bob Bogle) were still alive at the time and playing that night.

Definitely didn't have Max Weinberg guest-starring on a second drum set, tho! What an awesome version! :D

Many years ago I actually had someone telling me I looked like one of them and I didn't even knew they existed :D ( I basically listen to tecno and psy only back then ).

I suppose she was thinking of Dave, at least when I had my "beard" grown for a couple of weeks :D

Talk about some 90's shizzle!

You know I might try singing that one of these karaoke nights. I can almost get my voice up to chipmunk / Mister Hankey level normally. A couple beers should take me the rest of the way. :)

Ah but can you do the big hair Ike? :afro:
