If you are the same age as me (early 40’s), you will remember playing new <ST1:pEMs</ST1:p and the time that SS (solid state) machines became available
What was the first SS machine you played?
<O:p</O:p
For me, the local corner store always had Gottlieb machines, the first SS they had was ‘Sinbad’, I love everything about it, the sounds, the big blue displays
<O:p</O:p
The local arcade though stocked Williams, so the first game there was ‘Hot Tip’, I remember liking that it was digital, but hated the sounds, and thought that the orange displays were crummier than the big beautiful Gottlieb ones

Spirit of 76, and then Flash (still one of my faves) pretty sure both of these are SS pins, but i could be wrong, heck that was a LONG time ago about 30 yrs.!

I think it was Evel Knievel.

Supersonic was mine. Then Six Million Dollar Man. They were the first tables to reach Jupiter and Beyond gameroom.

I'm pretty sure it was Eight Ball. My buddies and I played it almost every weekend at the pizza place before they moved the pizza place. When they moved they put in Middle Earth.

Supersonic - I was sooooo :trippy: impressed by its look!
...
And I so :snooty: hated to play it - no chance to ever win a replay!

(Remark: I was only 13, thresholds were set very high and it had Swiss TILT-setup*)

Today, I love my Supersonic and the day it will be sold will be a rather sad one...

*) NEVER sneeze close to the game and AVOID extended Bumper action - both can lead to a TILT...

It was Allied Leisure's Dyn O' Mite, brand spanking new in 1975, and I believe it was the first mass-produced SS machine.
I see at IPDB that Bally's Bow and Arrow was produced as a prototype SS, though that version did not see wide distribution.

Sweet! RAF always stood for what we used to call "Dadaism in Pinball design"... :D

I'd like to give it another try nowadays - but I never saw one ever again...

Cheers!

Mine was Strikes and Spares. In fact, it was the first pinball machine I ever played. But not the last. So many quarters... and even a few Susan B. Anthony dollars. Anyone else remember when a select few machines were designed to take them?

Yessir. 5 games for $1. Early 1980's.

EDIT: Let me retrace my steps.

It was 5 games for One SBA Dollar coin at the test location, Mar Vista Bowl near Venice, Ca nearby the sea; early 80's.
These were prototypes and first run games placed on consignment in order to evaluate the profit potential before the distributor (Betson Pacific; now Betson International) either committed to a full scale lot purchase of each game or dumped it as a loser, so games were $.050 a pop, but 5 games for a SBA dollar coin. If you put 5 quarters in, you received a whopping 2 1/2 games.

This was being done to stimulate the use of the SBA coin and there were Special bill changers on site which only returned SBA dollar coins.

I usually used the quarter bill changer, and then if I was hot, would spend the remainder at Taco Bell, at least after my show biz hazing family with links to Macca and George Harrison forced me off Vegetarianism.

Before that time, it would have gone to a Delores' Restaurant vegi-burger (pretty good local stuff) or a bag of onion rings.
