I am thinking about changing my old Windows XP by the new Windows 7.
Anyone know something about possible problems to play VP with this new version of Windows?.
Thanks.

It works fine on 7.

The only critical thing is that you have to run VPinball 'As Administrator'.

Otherwise VPM wont be able to access the VBScripts and no emulated tables would function.

But other than that there is nothing that really differs from XP and earlier,...

You'll also find most applications designed to run on vista /windows 7 have now moved the user accessible files outside of program files.

eg. 3dstudio max has move its materials to the documents folder the same with abelton live ( the music samples are nol onger stored in the program files directory). The Program Files Directory is "more protected" now.

So it might pay to install VP (as well as FP ) to directories other than Program files.... I use d:/games/vp myself.

Folder-Accessibility is another thing the new pack will fix.

I made it so that the user who installed it (and only that user) will automatically have full access-privileges to the main directory and all folders and files within.

That means even if you install it into 'Programs', (which is the default), the UAC will never bother you when you add, copy, rename or delete any files. :)

(And thats only one of MANY things,...in fact there are so many new features now, i dread writing them all down already,...)

I started this post because I was told that when playing VP with Windows 7 you got error notices like "you need the newer version of VPMAME", or "you need the newer version of VBS file".
All this, of course, when you can play them perfectly with Windows XP.
Well, in any case, I'm decided to change to Windows 7 and, if necessary, return to XP, so I will keep you informed.

Well then they must have used outdated files or they didnt run VP as admin, although AFAIK the latter wouldnt trigger that kind of errors.

At any rate, to get a package that works perfectly under Vista and 7 just download and install the Visual Install Pack. (Look on frontpage.) It comes with everything you need, only VP9 is one revision behind, but there will be a huge update soon,...

CONFIRMED PROBLEMS
Unfortunately I have to confirm the problems with Windows 7
I've installed the VisualPinball Pack_8.1_2.1+NT and VP 9.0.3 in D:/VisualPinball (I prefer to keep C: only for the operative system)
Well, VP itself starts fine, but when I try to play a table (for example Back to the Future V.1.4.JPG you get the following error mesagges:
"Unable to open DE.VBS. Ensure that is in the same folder as this table. Variable no definida"
(of course I have DE.VBS en the same folder that the table)
Then follow other mesagge
"Can't load VPinMAME. Variable no definida"
And after this:
"VPinMAME ver 01560000 required"
"DE.VBS 3.26 or higher requiered." (I have the VBS's ver 3.27)
"Script Error"

The same problem with VP9 and the table 250ccVP9_1.0

Then I tried with a table that needn't PINMAME, for example "AlpineClub". In this case I get in the secreen the image of the table, but it doesn`t work at all.

Any help?

Well, thats not normal (the pack was thoroughly tested under Vista and 7) so obviously something went wrong.

The error here seems to be that VPM could not be registered.

Thus the first question is: Did you install the pack As Administrator?

Well, I'm the only user of the PC.
Windows 7 asks me a key at the beginning, and I think that I enter as Administrator as the O.S. let me change the letters os some partitions of the hard drive.

OK when you want to install the program Right Click on the Program icon and select run as administrator.

Once installed you need to do the same to play... Or

right click on each of the VP..exe go to properties and check always run as Administrator.

(if your brave you could run with the windows UAC disabled)

this guide is for vista but is esentially the same

OK. Thanks. I'll try that trick in a few months. Because the truth is that after sending the previous post, I had some problems with another application and this ended my patience, so I reinstalled XP.
