Cyclone (Gottlieb, 1951) VP9
IPD No. 615

Gottlieb's Cyclone, released in April 1951, was designed by Wayne Neyens with Art by Roy Parker. Only 800 units were produced so this game is fairly rare today. Cyclone is a very unusual design that while still having much of the feel of rolldown (flipperless) games, begins to show how the flipper allows new design ideas to be used for better game play. The side recovery lanes are an integral part of any strategy that is going to get a replay on score in this game, as they are where the big points reside without draining the ball. At the same time, the large score available by successfully draining between the flippers is much more a feature of rolldown game design.
