Gottlieb Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Gottlieb, 1978) - HELP!

Not sure what the hell is happening with my CE pin but here's the story. Take into account that I power off the game before any fixes.

The game needed to have a pop bumper switch and knocker replaced.

I replaced the knocker, tested it, it works fine.

Now on to the pop bumper.

I put the new switch on and connected the wires. I turned on the game, it booted up, tested the pop bumper, it didn't work (did I miswire it?) tested the working pop bumper, the roto target went nuts, wouldn't stop spinning.

I powered off, powered back on - now no displays, no boot but the GI lights work. WTH happened. I checked the fuses - all good.

The CPU (New board) lights once and goes off.

Any ideas? I'm not a SS guru. I figured I could replace the switch without probems. Heck, I fixed the knocker w/out any issues.

it sounds like there is a power supply issue with 5volts and maybee the negative 12 volts. the original power supplys with the L shaped chasis had problems with the 5 volt section. the 5 volt pass transistor, the large transistor mounted on back side of the chasis has 2 leads that pass thru the board thru eyelets and soldered on top. on early production runs of these boards , the boards with blue 5volt and 60volt adjustment pots that were made in phillipsburg nj. the eyelets did not get flow soldered correctly and made a intermit. connection to the transistor. when power supply is disassembled the eyelets need to be checked and soldered to assure a good connection. also check solder connections on male header pins. www.pinrepair.com has a good link for gottlieb system 1 for this power supply repair, grounding mods, and troubleshooting. this site will also tell you how to install leds on boards so you know voltages are present.
