Convert music from .rom / .vpt files

Hi Community

How can I convert/extract music from Sound-roms or vpt files?
I tried it with Visual Pinball, but it doesn't function. I searched for houres in the internet for a program, who can make something with the DCS Sound System, but there is nothing...
When I start Visual Pinball and open a vpt file and play it, I can hear the nice music. So I thought, I could record this music. Unfortunately the sound swings, probably owing to the different efficiency of the computer processor...
What can I do to get the music out of these files ??
On this site are some wav files of a Pinball, but no music. So there's a way to do this.

As far as I can figure....you'll need to install PinMAME (not Visual PinMAME) You can load most ROMS into this program and record all the sounds contained within. The user interface isn't very helpful so you'll need to play around with it to figure it out.

Another way (and the way I do it most of the time) is to have Audacity running in the background when you're playing your table of choice. Select it to record 'what u hear' and play the table. Audacity will record anything that you're computer can hear (everything, basically) so if you just want the music from a particular table just don't touch the table and let the music play. I used this technique to grab all the sounds I needed for my Black Knight recreation (and Firepower).

I use another conversion tool which is also very easy-to-use, Convert-tune.
http://www.convert-tune.com/
It converts audio files to different formats.
It has free CD Ripper and free CD Burner, and other options.
It converts video files for iPod as well.

what they were referring to is not a standard wav or mp3 file. within a ROM is a program that unless you use pinmame you aren't gonna get anything out of it at all.
btw another good free sound converter is 'Wavepad' this not only lets you convert mp3's to wav's and vice versa, but you can also cut/copy change the speed and pitch, link two or more sounds together, use fade in/out for sound effects and so much more. it is a freeware program, but again it won't/can't get any music from a rom pack. they are special (try opening one to see what i mean)

I have Wavepad. I use it to turn up volume or shorten, etc. What's the difference between visual pinmame and pinmame? I always thought (but never really paid attention) that they were the same thing. I need to learn to crack open the roms as well.

Oh wow. No offense, mate, but that's kinda small. I still have to do TOTAN, and then I pretty much have all that covered and more.

I slogged thru that demo and tried to extract the backgrund music from Flash but since it is based on skill and not just a timer I couldn't get any music files at all from it, but at least i DID get that mame thing to work. So now I know how to use it for that next time I need it.
