Doritos Nacho Tacos at Taco Bell

About time. I've been wanting this and a Fritos taco shell ever since I found out that Pepsico owns Frito-Lay and Taco Bell.
About 30 years ago.

Today was the rollout (in North Hollywood, Ca.) of the Doritos Crunchy Taco and Taco Supreme with a shell seasoned with Doritos Nacho powder, just like the chips (crisps).
$1.69 for a Doritos Taco Supreme.

The Pro: Tastes Great!

The Con: They're going cheap to keep the price down by making the shell extremely thin; so thin that they wrap the taco in a cardboard holder because the thing breaks apart to smitherines when the shell is so thin.
C'Mon now. Make the shell a regular thickness and charge me the extra $0.10 or $0.20 cents to keep the food from falling on my lap like a cheap Tostada!

Heh, no wonder I don't eat at taco bell - figured it had to do with something with pepsi. I can't drink ANY pepsi products OR eat ANY taco bell items. LOVE Fritos though :) The only time I eat something like taco bell is when I have to do some "spring cleaning".

I can't drink Pepsi or Coke due to the phosphoric acid dissolving my ulcerated stomach linings, but I can drink Mountain Dew and Sierra Mist.

In the past, Taco Bell has gotten tricky with the additives, phosphates, sulfites, so I only eat there by "Informed Consent".

Now, back when they were new and before being sold to Pepsico, man, those were the days!
The beef was fresh-grilled clean ground chuck with salt and onions and a couple of drops of soybean or corn oil to a nice sweet-nutty brown. The seasonings were left to the hot or mild sauce packets.

I used to save my lunch money and grab a taco there on the way home from school.
$0.39 a taco in 1967.

And in those days, Taco Bell was strictly outdoor walk-up with no indoor area for the customers, and they had an outdoor fire pit in front of the walk-up windows in the center of the outdoor tables, and it was fueled by the city gas line with a three foot flame at a diameter of about one and a half yards, with a pile of rocks on top that the fire would burn through and on top of.
EDIT: Thinking about it, it was a One Yard diameter fire pit.
I was a seventh grade runt at the time, and it's like being grown up and visiting your first grade classroom.
The desks are much smaller than they used to be.

It was often the saving grace of customers on cold nights; it served as a heater in the tiny table/walk-up order ares and for promotional use even though they left it ablaze on 100+ degree Summer days, and it used to be a truth or dare to quickly pass your hands and arms through "The Flame", careful not to bump the hot rocks though...owww.

And then we'd go home and play rock music. :)

I remember Taco Bell back in the 70s...the enchiritos at the time were some of the best things I ever had. JUst like everything else they got cheapened over time. Haven't been to Taco Bell in ages now.

If I get a hankering for quick mexican I'll go to Chipotle (awesome burritos, and the soft tacos aren't bad either) or Taco John's in a pinch (they're just like taco bell but taste better)
