Folks, Do You Have Unclaimed Money or Property that Belongs to You?

Saw this on Yahoo! today. I don't mean to be grim.
In many States, when a business or institution, or Uncle Sam owes you or your family a refund or property that, for whatever reason, has become 'lost',
the business or institution is required by law to report the unclaimed money or property to the State of residence.

So, if you lost that mail order refund check, or if you have a lost loved one who was owed money or property, or perhaps the cemetery overcharged your loved one or failed to provide the services as ordered, you can check the status of any unclaimed money or property, if there is any, with the State agency of residence, usually Online.

When searching for a claim:

Search by using the person's name, for instance, your Father or Mother's name. Sometimes when lost loved ones have passed on, their attending hospital has collected extra money which may be owed to you or your family as next-of-kin, and you can claim the money if you are that.

Search using your Mother's Maiden name, or by any "aliases" which your lost loved one may have used.

Search at the website for the State of residence. If your loved one lived in New York, then check with the New York site, and if they lived in more than one State, then check with each one.

Or, search using your own name, but that never works for me...

six years ago Turbo Tax screwed up my tax return by never giving it to the IRS
to this day each time I call about it they say "they are looking into my refund"
The government owes me $800 dollars in a tax refund from that year
yeah right, I know I'll never see that refund
so don't believe anything the U.S. government tells you about them owing you anything

Did you check both the sites for the Fed and the State that you lived in at the time?
Maybe Uncle Sam speaks with forked tongue for Sam,
but it holds true for third parties owing a refund.
California used to also require a 5% apy interest payment with any money held by the State.
Not sure if that is still true given the current banking rates.

I'd be wondering if the government pulled a fast one with a new law.
Can the State attach tax refunds for workman's comp or benefits?

my workers comp checks did NOT get taxed
so I won't be getting a refund this year either
the checks stopped in September and as of now
I have absolutely no income, haven't since September
My gal has been supporting me all this time
the government won't even front me part of my settlement
I really hate this country's health care system
and the way our government screws its citizens
