I have noticed recently the above has started to become unreliable on opening from the desktop. One minute OK, the next FP encountering an error and must close
any ideas, all software up to date

just an idea/suggestion.
a)maybe components went missing in the program for some reason.
b)maybe this is related to the same problem with your "Bam update" thread.
maybe the disable of your AV willl work better if you go through "administrative tools" "component sevices".
disable, restart, then turn it back on when done.
like any computer program you need to restart when you make changes and/or turn programs off/on.
c) btw, this was discussed 15yrs ago...disable of AV when downloading/installing and stay off the internet
because the internet is scrambling your PB config paths...been doin' this for 15yrs....works for me....
i stayed off the web with my PB PC and the errors stopped.

Do you experience this problem randomly on any table or do the same tables consistently produce the error and other tables are OK?

It's not the tables. The shortcut to the desktop seams to be the problem. The FP loader is fine in loading from the bam folder

Hmmmm,,, try this, right click on the icon, click on "run as admin", uncheck the box in compatibility and for "all users" and see what happens and do the same for all the folders in Cdrive....

Thanks. I think I have worked it out. As you say, I have done that and the problem appears to be the renaming of the desktop shortcut, so am now leaving it as FP loader shortcut. All I did was remove the shortcut how odd

you didn't mention you renamed the icon....it's not odd...the dumb PC got lost....

I was about to suggest that you verify the target is correct, like C:\Games\Future Pinball\BAM\FPLoader.exe but I'm glad you were able to fix it.

No, it's not fixed, just tired from the desktop to open and error comes up and must close. And then 2 minutes later is fine once again

If you have no problem with running fploader from your file manager, my guess is there is something wrong with Windows. I have nothing checked on the compatibility tab and FP opens with my fploader icon. I do normally use this method to play tables though:

You might try it. I find it easier.

Windows files are OK, George. All pinball files from antivirus, all protected. Oh, well, will just have to see how it goes. Hopefully, a later update might be the cure

Just an update, it's still playing up from time to time and so random. You can click on the bam icon and get the error and then one minute later it loads and then on the next opening one minute later the error and must close. As I say, hopefully a new update might clear this blocking
once opened, however, it never encounters any errors until you close it and start again

I don't know what the problem is. I have never experienced it myself and no other reports of it from anyone else. All I can suggest is try the method I use to play tables. I just double click on the *.fpt file with my file manager or Windows explorer. I have a folder of favorite tables. It requires set up that I describe in the tutorial linked below. It won't work without the set up here:
