Future PinballP system reqs compared to VP9/X

Hi ;

I'm a long time VP user since VP8 days but never tried FP and willing to give it a chance after all this time

I'm on a i3 laptop from 2015 , which can play up to VP995 with everything maxed out , but for VPX depending on the table it varies from 40~50 fps (which is mostly playable) to minus 20 fps which lags badly (at low settings)

I'd like to have an idea how FP would run on my pc , is it more taxing than say VP9 physmod ?

Btw I play desktop tables , no cabinet or 2nd screen etc , just plugging the laptop to living room tv by hdmi

I know FP is old and most tables are recreated better on VP , physics are not that good etc , but it is ok for me , as long as it's fun

FP is old but BAM is pretty much new and you can do a lot with it... just look at TerryRed's tables which I'm not sure your laptop can handle, especially if you don't have a dedicated GPU. And you stil lhave to patch fploader with the 4GB patch if you want to play Star Wars: Death Star Assault - Galactic Edition

Look for tag "FizX" here. One at least you can probably play - Cosmic Princess - which was the demo table for FizX (and it'll be updated very soon again ). You'll be surprised on how good FizX makes FP play but i'm biased :D

In any case, it is more important to maintain a constant framerate than having 100fps and then dip to 20fps. there are several ways to do this (drivers, 3rd party software like msi afterburner if you have nvidia, form inside FP in BAM menu)

That being said, there are a LOT of tables for FP so... go ahead and try. It'll take a while until people catch up with FizX to update older tables but they were and still are fun to play nonetheless, as you adequately put it.

Btw FP doesn't use pinmame and dmd etc is included within the tables (embedded?) right ?

Can you direct me a fool-proof guide to install and play FP if possible ?

FP does not use roms so no need for anything *mame related. You can use dmdext I think though as that is for use with several softwares but I never used that so I really don't know.

Installing FP is pretty easy. Got to https://www.ravarcade.pl/ download the 2-in-1 installer. Unzip your tables to a folder and that's it. This is the easy way that will get you there for 90% of tables.

For everything else settings/setup related please, do check Terryred's megaguide. It is MEGA but don't be overwhelmed by it. Just look at the parts that apply to you.

It is more arcadey than VP but it has its charm , and runs pretty good on my laptop too

Btw how do you make the dmd window display top left of the screen alas VP and not upper side of the cabinet view ?

And can you recommend a few good tables for starters ?

DMD... depends on the table.
Some are coded so you press the HUD key (i don't recall the deafult - see FP settings) and it "moves" DMD to left or right.
Others simply don't have it and to see it you have to press TAB so you can "look at backbox"
Others have it and you have to go to "Translite" screen and move the appropriate box to where you want it on the screen. Actaully you may have to move a couple of boxes as you have have frames around the DMDs...

You're being nice calling those physics especially really early tables arcadey :D

You'll get spoiled with teh not so arcadey physics anymore so like I said, above, try Cosmic Princess (download from this site). You should download all "FizX" tagged tables - all from Terryred - but DO READ his instructions because some required a good PC to run and some tweaks before you do. Actually, again, read Terryred's megaguide when in doubt.
