I disagree @xenonph - Collection of DOS games is not even enough to describe what eXoDos is. To me it is preservation at its best.

I have exodos, scummvm and win3.x merged (there's a video on how to do it on YT if you're interested).
It is the biggest emulation folder I have by far and I only install one game at a time :D

Regarding LaunchBox, it also has evolved quite a bit! Even the free version is pretty much all one needs in a front end!

I also have all 3 of those, (exodos, scummvm and win3.x) but I have not merged them together.
And yes the installing of one game at a time is nice!!
I love that Instructions, and Box Art and such is included with the package.
Like you say, Preservation at it's best!!

Archive.org is slow as hell for dloads and it would take anyone an eternity to dload over 500GBs worth of tables and misc stuff that is now plain worthless. I for one rarely use it. ...
Honestly, I don't think that's the best way to look at the project, Tiago.

For one thing, I think it's good to remember that AO's collections are based on probably the largest torrent VP & FP collections in existence as of ~1.5yrs ago last time I checked. It's all volunteer-uploaded of course, so that kind of lag is probably typical.

Point is, if you're looking to grab massive chunks of content, your best move is certainly to torrent it, just like MAME, DAPHNE content, etc. Conversely, if you're looking to grab the very latest versions of cutting-edge stuff, your best move is certainly to hit the forums, where the authors originally release.

IMO the real point of the AO collections is to help preserve a huge amount of *almost* up-to-date FP / VP content. It's indeed fantastic when it comes to grabbing slightly-older or incredibly-older stuff that can be slightly tricky to track down, for example @sphere's stuff.

At the same time, to grab more than ~1gb of stuff from AO when you know it's available elsewhere is pretty-much taking advantage of the project's generosity IMO, and they're 100% right to throttle their DL speeds. Considering how much content they host, they'd be swiftly hammered in to oblivion if they tried to serve the same bandwidth as the niche content areas, such as ours.

I was just making a point. The why really doesn't matter. Btw I do understand the speed limit I'm not arguing that.

Regarding pinball exclusively there's not even a reason to have what I have. Its just hoarding... Until everything crashes or I grow tired of it. I don't even play any tables from my sets, not even vpx tabled! I download everything because it's probably updated already. But it is a fact that it is slow so not feasible even if you want just a VPX table collection that, btw, no one has, let alone updated.

Also some projects, unfortunately, you can't find anywhere else and it is a problem for large collections. Remember that some sets are in fact updated and AO is used as primary method of distribution (one reason for the speed limit) so it is not just archival purposes. And they use large zips on top of that so you'll have to download everything on every update. I know because I do update one project from there. Looking at it as archive only is not the right way to do it either.

fp and VP collections I have are not maintained anymore. They were actually the only pinball sets I know that existed but their maintenance stopped almost a year ago and the site where they were posted is closed now too anyway. The upside is that I probably have sphere's tables. Just don't know where to start. If you have list pm me. I'll try to look on Monday.

As a side note, let's not forget not everybody knows where to look and even more so with search engines showing you what they think you want based on what is more profitable to them (read commercial websites) with the good stuff hidden. Point in case vpd showing in a lot of searches for pinball, still.

@AnonTet,
Remember that some sets are in fact updated and AO is used as primary method of distribution (one reason for the speed limit) so it is not just archival purposes.
What content are you talking about specifically?

That seems like a pretty wonky idea when it comes to emulation content.

I could better understand when it comes to antique media content, especially on the niche side.

Several different systems from sega to the Big N and others updated by dumping groups.
