all good
I am, actually! It's intended as a low-profile and low power-draw option, so not what I'd recommend if you've got the money/space for nicer.
It's enough to run VPX at 1080p 60fps with some of the graphics effects on (reflections, shaders, AA, etc.), but for newer/more advanced tables I have to disable most options to keep the ball smooth. And on the tables using the latest cutting-edge tech I have to turn everything off and limit the max texture sizes as well 🥲

hello wylte,
i was told the same.
it's an entry level card.
works well for watching movies but might need to bump the resolution and settings down for gaming
what other cards were you looking at for an upgrade for VP?

Haven't looked into it for a bit. I usually try to get whatever is the best value, so like a middle-high range card from the previous generation. We got a 6600xt last year that went into my wife's PC.

well, best value may not work for this.
might work for VP9xx but i dunno if it work for VPX as i found out with my GTX560.
the 560 worked ok for VP9 but struggled with VPX.
the requirements to play the new programs has gone up a lot in the last 10yrs since VP9.
been looking around before i make a decision.
looks like $300-400 to start will be what is need to get a decent card that will work.
thanks 4 the reply.

If I didn't mention it before (I at least though about it), I would not change my 1080 for a 2080 from NVidia unless I'd need raytracing. Meaning, the 16x series are not an option.

I have NO ideia about prices but anything with less performance than a gtx1080 is not worth it which brings me back to 2080, because If remember correctly, even the 2080 was only worth for RTX but with a bigger price tag the value for money sucked (and I didn't need RTX).

GTX1080 was/is one hell of a GPU if you ask me. And BTW, buy third party brands like Asus or MSI, not only because they're usually better in performance with some level of overclock from factory but because of the cooling. Size though might be a factor. the 1080 is bigger than that gtx560 so... measure your case :)

If you want to go 4K though, you'll need more than a gtx1080 and then the RTX2080 is probably the minimum you'll want, even if only at 60FPS.

Disclaimer: I prefer higher refresh rate than higher resolution for pinball hence why I play at 1080p 237Hz instead of 4k57Hz (my monitor can do both)

Note: you might wonder about those refresh rates numbers and it's because I use the drivers to limit 3 FPS below the max refresh rate available.

I can't speak for AMD.

good points.
i think i want to stay Nvidia and not risk a video problem with another brand.
then i have to take it back and start over.
the GTX1080 is pricey at @$599.
i dunno.
i don't want to go used or "refurbished" on a GPU.
it's probably used up.
i bought a GTX1650 new from BB marked down to $139 from 189.
i might take it back and do an upgrade.
