Got my first hole in one today at golf...after over 20 years, 2 games a week...:joy:

A 160 metre par 3, used a 3 iron, usually I use a 4 iron though I was hitting into a 25 knot breeze, so went with the 3 iron, hey I'm no Tiger Woods, that said strangely enough I was using a Nike golf ball.

It is a down hill hole with a slight rise in the middle and you can only see the top of the flag from the tee, so I didn't know until I got there.

I did birdie the first hole also a par 3 and was 3 under the card for the first 6 holes, ended up 2 over for the day, won the completion.

Actually after the birdie on the first I mentioned I should go back the the club house now it's not going to get any better, guess I was wrong! :)

Hey, beauty! :)

Wow! Very impressive, Steve! Even more so for doing it with a three iron, of all things!

Nice score there SteveO(z). My Dad said "Golf is a game largely played against oneself " ... Some times the competition really ticked him off.

It's true most of the time you are playing against yourself, though there are some formats of the game where you play as a team. The competition factor is swings and roundabouts really, depending on whom your playing partners are and a hole in one would be a somewhat diminished shot without any witnesses.

My favorite team format is best ball with 6 feet of string which can be used to extend shots with the amount used cut off. The string is used most of course with putting but has been used to get out from under a bush and that type of thing.

Interesting, never heard of the novelty string golf game, the closest I recall is Mulligans, where you are allowed to replay a set number of shots, the replayed shot is called a Mulligan, thus the name.

I guess my favourite team game would be Ambrose, where you play in a team of 2,3 or 4. Everyone hits then you select the best ball and all hit again from there and so on, it's amazing the low scores you can get in that format. Even a team of average golfers playing Ambrose 4's would most likely beat the worlds best golfer.

The string takes nothing away, other than a serious golf game. String management is crucial as it can mean the win for the team. It's tempting to use a lot of string for a hole in one, but better usage is gimmes.

Another novelty we would play sometimes,
Team members would take turns hitting a specially marked pink ball on their drive. This ball is the teams life. loose it and your team is out.

Also we often had a trick ball (heavy on one side) and or had to use a crooked putter on the 18th green.

Congratulations on the Hole In One by the way. I have not even seen someone else do that in person.

I have never played a team game of golf in my life, so I guess I have to rely on my video game knowledge. There's a game where each team takes turns hitting the ball. You know, one person drives the ball, the next player has to hit it from where the first person drove it and so on. While all fun and games on the computer, I can imagine this format ending a lot of friendships in real life.

Yes a most challenging game, play it twice a year, championship pairs, male/male, then the even more so challenging male/female pairs, it's actually a very prestigious event, on the golf calendar. Actually won it a few times with my dad, once with a shelia in tow. ;)

There's always beers and snacks after, it's only a game and what would be the point without that challenge?

Though it's all about being there keeping active, being alive, all there for the game, friendship no doubt is fostered, though in the focus of the game all political and ideology differences are put aside.
