how to calibrate slide pot axis as xbox right thumbstick

ive recently added a 10k slide pot on a STM32 using Freejoy, and using XOutput to translate that axis to an xbox controller right thumbstick axis...
freejoy has some great settings for the axis, allowing you to set centres and ranges, and even curves..
i cannot for the life of me get it working right tho...
i can only seem to get the axis to act like the thumbstick is pushed all the way forward (or all the way down) when the plunger is all the way in
it seems as tho the RY axis must be centred for Pinball Arcade, and FX but i cannot get it to sit at that spot without physically pulling the plunger halfway out...
when its set like this ingame, half the axis doesnt work so its much more sensitive than it should be... and half the range of the plunger is wasted...

does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this so the axis only travels from full down to half way?

i guess it probably would be easier to set the games to use a trigger instead of thumbstick....
..but i cannot remove the triggers being set as flippers...without a physical xbox controller attached..

EDIT: setting the game as trigger axis, makes the plunger work as a button, theres ZERO analog... it only works analog as right stick :/
