I was tweaking with the first time with the very "first" version of Visual Pinball. (I also have some experience from FP)

Is still worth using VP8?

It all depends on what your computer can handle.
If you can't run VPX on your setup, try VP9.
If you can't run VP9 on your setup, try VP8.

It has been a long time since the last VP8 table was uploaded.
VP9 tables are still being worked on by a very few.
Most are using and uploading VPX tables.
