Yup, one of the managers.

The fact is, this site was about to retire around the first outbreak of covid, before some extraordinary efforts were made to re-organise it and preserve it. I'm proud to have done my part, but it was indeed a group effort, starting with Jon, of course.

I know this is a blunt, bumbling post, but it really is amazing that this site is like... 22yo at this point? To me it's rather fascinating to have all the history and early tables preserved here, and then to have the PSDB tables archived on top of that just sends things to the next level.

I don't plan on embarrassing people here on any kind of regular basis, but sometimes I just have to pipe up about how extraordinary Pinball Nirvana is. Also, the XenForo software it runs on. I mean, we're living in an age in which most people have migrated from forums and other social-media constructs to the "big boys," like Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, etc, and yet this pleasant, quality-site carries on, with lots of things to recommend it.

Me, I'm barely in to pinball these days*, but I can appreciate and recognise excellence when I see it, I hope. Plus, Steve is still here, so that's at least one of the old mateys rocking on.

While I totally agree with you in principle, and that the thread-title should be ratcheted-down a bit (go ahead, pls?), I still believe that after Jon (with Shiva's expertise) managed to bring this site back to life, that it was YOU, mssr, who provided the critical lifeblood.

Regardless, I think it's the greatest thing ever. <3

I would say the tables here can be searched more easily than the other sites because of all the tags and prefixes Charles added. A few days ago a new person on one of the other forums asked for a list of EM tables built in the 70's. This is the only site I knew it could be done and be able to rely on the results being correct so I posted a link.

I'm simply thankful I discovered this site (probably shortly after it was brought back to life), as I didn't even know it existed up to that point. GoPinball was a valuable resource, but the forum software was extremely dated / limited, and sadly the spam in its final days made it impossible to deal with before its eventual demise.

Seeing this site and its newer forum software and features was an absolute miracle in comparison, which I'm very thankful to all involved.

Charles is the one who manually downloaded each table from PinSimDB after it was announced that it would be taken down and managed to complete the downloads before the cut off date. Then manually uploaded each table to PN and made it comply with the existing PN standards (which he set). I tried to help but was only able to transfer screenshots of a few tables from PinSimDB that had been previously transferred electronically. It seemed to take forever but Charles somehow managed to do his part much more quickly.

Yeap, I was totally blown away by that.

Now me? I personally wanted to 'take on the big boys' (i.e. the other main VP sites) with better article-writing, marketing and user-engagement, but I eventually found out that such aims were like, I dunno... trying to self-propel a front-wheel Ford out of a deep, muddy ditch?

Still, my question remains from the OP-- how can PN better serve its users?

Now, if nobody cares, then nobody cares. And that's cool, I guess.

A thing that i think would be nice to promote pinballnirvana, is that it is possible to embed the pn banner on any website. Some kind of webpage here to embed the banner, i dont know if it exist here. Also that when the banner here is updated, then because the url link is the same; it update the websites that promote pn.

An other idea i have, maybe for some peoples; it is an idiot idea of mine? Some kind of free contest. What kind of contest? Well when there is some seasonal events that come as example (christmas, halloween, irish day, valentine day, new year, etc.) PN users could create some banner for pinballnirvana related to the event that is comming. Of course it will have to have some banner size and resolution. After the pn user upload his/her banner. Next the pn users could give some kind of vote, (like 1 star to 5 stars) on the banners. The results of stars is compiled. It could be the best "10" banners voted. So the banner of pinballnirvana change on top of the pages, passing from banner 1, banner 2, banner 3, up to banner 10 (changing banners) with maybe a delay of 3 seconds to see the next banner. When the banner change, it is writen the pn user member name. Like so peoples could see as this banner is made by GeorgeH, this banner is made by TerryRed, this banner is made by Isaac Sauvage. Each events there is other same contest of banner creations for pn members. Peoples might find it real fun to participate in creating some pinballnirvana banners. I dont know how this contest could be programmed, but it might bring more pn users. I wonder what peoples think about this idea of mine?

There is lots of banners, many look real great. I'm impress by many designs, i dont know who had done the look; there is certainly talents.

Indeed, i have not think that this kind of contest; might attract spam. I would definitely not like that. I think in the time of gopinball, there was soo much spams; have seen many messages repeating it self and messages about many different pills.

Yup i agree, think it would be much work to do about it; so i think for theses reasons and for the goodness of pinballnirvana, this contest idea of mine might not be good after all. But if one day it would be possible, i think that it would be only made by members of pn, that have some trust points and is on pn for some amount of time. Brief to not make some kind of spams and not degrade pinballnirvana at all.
