Yes folks managed to crash my bike and myself. This time I hit one of those damn bollards, that they stick in the middle of pathways around these parts to prevent cars taking shortcuts down pathways...damnit!

Knew it was there, though as it was just going dark I managed to clip it, which threw me off into another bollard, result a couple of really sore lower ribs and a fracture to part of my L3...xay attached.

So now I'm house bound for at least 3weeks and the pain is something else, trying to sleep at night is even more fun. I am on pain relief, though it doesn't seem to do a lot unless you can get in the right position and not move at all.

Oh well at least according to the Doc, my spine will heal, is no serious threat and the pain should subside over the next few weeks.

Ouch! Better you than me, I am happy to hear you will heal up soon. You need to consider a small car, but then those can crash too.

Hotter than hell here, so I assume it is the off season for you and this won't hinder your golf game.

Speedy recovery!

Bob I think I've told you before golf is a winter sport, well here it is, so as they say here yeah/nah..

So no good for my golf record and I had been doing really well this season gone from 15 down to a 10 handicap, though back to an 11 on my last round, also pared every hole and birdied 6 for the eclectic.

Jeezum Crow, Steve! I think a juxtaposition could be made that you are as good at golf as you are crap at riding a bike! Glad to hear that at least you managed to live through another life-threatening accident! Best wishes for a speedy recovery because... damn... a 10 handicap?!?! Have you achieved "pro" status yet? BTW, you don't use one of those Adam Scott "sissy" putters, do you?
Meantime, might I suggest an alternative form of travel to "Oh, god, Steve's gonna die!"

Hitting a ball out the rough is obviously a lot easier then picking yourself up after hitting the rough and those bike paths are a tad more narrow then you average fairway, especially after the 19th hole. ;)

As for my putter it's at least as old as me, maybe older, a double sided brass headed blade putter with a leather bound handle, handy for the occasion left handed shot when caught up against a tree, I often use it from off the green and have been known to sink a few.

sorry to hear that, steve. hope your recovery proceeds okay... that you don't get hooked on pain meds and too much home brew! btw, if there is youtube footage of your links work, it would be fun to check out your swing.

@bob,
funny how relatively close dayton is to CLE, and yet it's almost been fleece-weather here the past couple days. maybe it's the rains and being right off the lake. but i keep hearing about how dreadful the heat's been across the nation this week. those poor firefighters who lost their lives just now fighting arizona wildfires. :(

now i have a slightly-bulging carotid and must go to the ER tomorrow. i love how my mind keeps developing as i grow older and hate how my body keeps falling apart. >_<

Oh yeah I heard about the heat over there on the radio the other day and they said temps up 56C, that's what I thought I heard and that's just crazy. I've experienced mid 40's here in Northern Australia and that was about as hot as I'd ever like to get and with the fire it must be just plain scary.

I doubt I'll get hooked on the meds, the strongest ones I've been prescribed are 5mg Oxycodone and I've only got 20 of them mainly for trying to sleep at night, otherwise it's just panadol. Though I must say the little sleep I did get last night was full of some really trippy dreams. :)

Just looked them up, minimum dosage it seems, although it seems it was popular here with the IV junkie users a few years back.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxycodone

The doctors here are very strict for the most part when subscribing drugs of that nature, I just checked and I have no repeat subscription on that stuff.

a few weeks ago the weather stations had to invent
a new color for temperature
for use in Australia's desert the temps were that high!
Arizona is running a strong second in desert temps though

I got some Amitriptyline from my gal to help me sleep at night
for those days when the pain is too great to just 'relax' as my doc says to do
stay away from Oxy though as that stuff is highly addictive
I have three herniated discs in my lower back from a work related accident
in 2005 they are still healing so the docs say
a shot of steroids every year in my lower back helps the healing process
well that's what they told me anyhow
(8 years later and still lots of pain at times)
good luck with your healing
of course that just leaves more time for pinball!!

Oh Man, that's a No, StevOz!
I've been looking at bikes and electric scooters for short hops down to the market and back, but I'm 59 and the practical electric scooters with any decent distance per charge weigh in starting at 100+ lbs., so that's out. A decent distance per charge for me is a Minimum of 10 miles, but hopefully 20 per charge, but the farther they can go, the heavier they get by using more heavy batteries to achieve the distance, and a 20 mile scooter tends to weigh in at 200+ lbs..

And for bikes, I was thinking of your experiences, and I remember very well the day I was on a bike and it kicked out from under me when the front wheel hit a sideways rock and I went face down with the wheels of a Chevy Impala passing within one foot of my face at 35 M.P.H., so I'm not going there again either.

What I would be interested in is a lightweight 10-speed pedal Trike, 3 wheel with a low center of gravity and no flipping over. Either that or an electric moped trike.

StevOz, have you thought about trikes?

Trikes are just not cool, as efficient or able to negotiate the more narrow path ways. Here is an external shot.

Sorry to hear about this Steve. I've had my bike (since new) for going on 32 years. I've encountered all manor of idiots, but despite riding in rain, snow, and ice, the worst I've done is have my foot slip while waiting at a light.

Nice little bike Itchy, used to own a few 250cc bikes in my time, err what the hey is that big black box between the handlebars?

Just found a you tube clip of my old favourite. She was one mighty bike used to get 60mpg and it could do the ton (100mph), only ever did that once on a straight outback road, hit 165 kph! :) Rather scary at anything over 140 kph as it was that light it was flying or floating over the surface at those speeds but it was great around town and could really fly around corners.

Only 60? I got literally 75- exactly- every time, no matter how I drove it. When I punched out the jets, I expected it to drop. Now it gets 85- every time. It's more consistent than I am! Btw, mine's a 125 (1982), factory geared to 70. I have run it to 85 trying to outrun a tornado, but I have it geared to 66 for better pulling power.

Sorry about your accident StevOz, don't know what a "bollard" is but I remember you in a different accident, hope a bollard is more forgiving than a damned car.
I used to ride a bunch of bikes and never seen a damned bollard, almost lost my life on a KZ650 around 1977 in California, was using the serpentine technique and barely missed a bunch of vehicles and pedestrians:

Gotta perfect the Serpentine..:juggle2:

I had an experience in '69 as a teen riding a neighbor's scooter with an automatic foot-tap transmission. There was a trick to it. I was coming to the end of the parking lot with a brickhouse structure facing me.

The trick was to release the throttle when downshifting to 1st gear. If you held the throttle when tapping the foot-shifter, it would upshift to 3rd gear automatically.

They didn't tell me about that.

I ended up sliding sideways on turning and broadside smack into the side of the brickhouse after letting go of the throttle in 3rd gear and braking hysterically, which mercifully threw me sideways off the bike and away from the cinderblock wall and landing on my can, but spraining my wrist when my hand flexed backwards against the blacktop on landing. Pretty damn lucky that was. Bent the solid metal handlebars in the collision. The Father accepted the damages out of pocket.

And one Friday night while standing outside of the local market, I saw a hog bike fail to brake behind a stopped car. The rider went straight into the rear end, flipped up and forward, and took to air as he flew headlong over the roofline, landing at some distance in front of the car, like a bike rider stunt in a classic 60's B-grade biker film.
He got up and seemed to be okay, except for his awareness of the surrounding realities which may have been in play prior to the mishap.

here in the US a lot of road bikes have EFI now.
some have carburators.
a lot of off road bikes have carbs.
smog laws are real tough here in the US
you have EPA, CARB(calif air resource board) and all the clean air laws to deal with here.
when i got my suzuki DR200 it only had 2000mile on it.
it was running hot and lean.
it's a lot of work but i had to rejet.

Mine's a full 100% street legal, not a half and half. I have about 35,000 miles on mine which is a lot for a 125cc. I stole the stereo off of it for my cab (I needed an amp with a volume control and the KRACO car stereo fit the bill). But I'm replacing it with a touchscreen. :updated:

why not the 3.5mm stereo output on the back your PC with some decent PC speakers or maybe...
use the 3.5mm adapter at the PC, cut of the red/black RCA ends at the other end and use some stereo speakers.

I have some 6.5 inch car stereo speakers on my cab, but I didn't have anything that would drive them decently. So I'm using the 2.5 mm plug as a line input on the stereo.20240816_191318.jpg

the PC stereo 3.5mm output did not drive the 6.5 speakers?
if they are 4ohm they should work fine because i think PC speakers are 6ohm.
i got some really nice phillips dual 4inch 6ohm stereo speakers.
it's just pinball...
this is not the actual pair but they look like this... https://www.ebay.com/itm/176536158587

nm, i did a search on google...it said the PC output is very low...
it needs an amplified speaker system.
i knew the output was low...i thought it be enough to run 2 small speakers for pinball.
