Hello
I have noticed a fault, maybe it's mine, but in any case I'm asking here before giving up on these fine tables.

The issue is: even if I copy the rom the table asks for (on the first run), it gives me a Script Runtime Error
Machine '...' terminated before initialized, check the rom path or rom file!

Concrete examples are Alien Star, Buck Rogers, Close Encounters with roms alienstr, buckrgrs, closeenc.
They have only one set of rom available too, so I can't try versions.

Now I have noticed this error in the past, but I just written those tables off as exceptions (as mostly recent tables I tried worked just fine)... but apparently this seems to be a much more widespread problem, so just to be sure I'll ask -- am I missing something or are these tables dead, rom or no rom?

VPX was installed with the all-in-one installer, and upgraded to the latest version.

Are you placing the zipped roms in your rom folder, located in your VPinMAME folder?
Other rom tables are working for you?

Yes and yes.
If it seems relevant and helpful to someone, I can also look up what tables haven't worked in the past (as I put the roms in a separate folder & deleted the tables). From what I recall Devil's Dare also isn't working.

Try these roms I added as attachment.
These are for the 4 tables you mentioned.
Just to make sure you are using correct rom.

Also, just to be sure, go into your VPinMAME folder, and look for Setup.exe.
Run that, and when window comes up, click the Install button at top.

OK I will try and report back.
VPinMAME is registered ("installed") alright. Does it matter if it's the 32 or 64 bit version? VPX is 64 so I assume I needed the 64 bit version but in your screenshot the exe without 64 is circled in red... which now that I think of it, has an uncertain number of assumed bits?

I personally have not used the 64bit versions, even though my computer is a 64bit computer.
This may be why you are seeing problems with tables that have those types of LED's.
Notice it is all Gottlieb tables.
Try the setup.exe, and click install.
If it doesn't work, you can always run the Setup64.exe and click install, to get it back to 64bit.

I believe the 64bit versions are still in Beta phase. (I.E. you can only download these versions from Github.)
I know of only one table that says you need 64 bit versions to run, and that is the new Big Bang Bar table released by VPW team.
All of the rest of the tables run fine without 64bit versions.

I tried it with 32 bit but no difference.
edit: haven't tried the "new" roms yet as I am still waiting for something to finish downloading so I can unplug my usb stick
The Big Bang Bar table either crashes for me or if I limit the texture size the majority (almost all) textures are just flat white. But I don't care that much to bother about it.
Captain Nemo Dives again crashes back to the editor without any error or anything, left a comment on VPUniverse both on the table page and in its very own support topic but all I can hear is the wind whistling. Now that is a table I would have liked to try as I don't have an opportunity in real life (and quite enjoyed reading the Verne novel)... but then again that's not even a rom problem... more like a rum problem...

So are you using 64bit version of VPX?
Try downloading non 64bit version VPX7.3 here...
Copy the contents into your Visual Pinball folder, and overwrite when asked.
Then try running the offending tables.

Are you running these on cabinet or desktop?

Ok, I will try full 32 bit (without & with new roms) in an hour when my youtube download is complete. I'm going to get some exercise in the meantime.
I am running these single screen desktop... not that I have a choice lol. Fortunately I have ran across only one table that assumed that I have B2S and had to manually change it in the script (Game Plan 1985 Loch Ness Monster prototype).
BTW I checked now and I actually kept a log about "not working tables": add Nautilus and Nemesis.

Try reinstalling VPinMAME 3.5 here..
Copy contents to your VPinMAME folder and overwrite when asked.
Then make sure to run Setup.exe and click Install.

OK, so I tried it with the "new" roms and they all work! Thank you!! I am actually very happy because Alien Star, Buck Rogers, and Close Encounters are all keepers (Devil's Dare gives me a Williams clone vibe which I can't fully appreciate).
Are they from an older version of PinMAME or dumped independently?
Also, can I bug you here if I run across enough pins that need assistance? I am trying to go through all the interesting ones I downloaded as space is at a premium right now and I want to make sure that the ones I keep I know are working.

BTW after making sure of all of the above, I also applied the two 32 bit packages you linked just to see if Captain Nemo Dives Again would work, but it just throws me back to the editor, without any error, as before...

Those particular roms I got from my personal collection, but they are the same as the ones available here in roms section.
Feel free to bug me anytime you have a problem.
Post a link to that Captain Nemo table, and I will check it out, and see if I can help you get it running.

Oooh okay I got mine from the VPinMame torrent over at archive.org (Visual PinMAME 3.6 Beta 370 ROM Set) but now that I look at it indeed it's from October of 2021.
Could you point me to the roms section here? Because I can't see it.

this is the table in question

That rom collection at archive.org is missing many files in the roms.

Here is the rom section for this site...

Here is Captain Nemo table with Playfield and Plastics images reduced from 4096 x 1840 to 2048 x 920.
See if this table works for you now. Also added as attachment in case dropbox doesn't work for you.
EDIT: removed link

Thank you, bookmarked
Unfortunately the table did not work, has the same behaviour.
But in my drunken stupor I double clicked the table itself and it finally gave me the location of the error.
Of course it was an "IHaveB2Sinstalled = true" check, with true being default. Exactly like Loch Ness except here it didn't complain about it, just silently failed (can't even tell if that is a VB fault, a VPX fault, or table fault).
Anyway it was't even defined at the beginning of the script or where the constants should be defined, BECAUSE I CHECKED BEFORE.
Very bad programming, if you ask me.
And they assume that "start" is plunger and not start button?
I feel ashamed for making you bother with such an amateur job (with good marketing...)

Right click the table file with mouse and click Edit.
Now click Script button on left side of editor and on Line 84 you will see this...

IHaveB2Sinstalled = True

Change that to ...

IHaveB2Sinstalled = False

Yes yes I know how to programming (unless it uses some technology that came out after 89), how else could I have told you about their plunger malfunction?

Is the table working now?

Well, "I feel ashamed for making you bother with such an amateur job (with good marketing...)" means that it's an issue that isn't worth investigating anymore, without regards to the working status of the table.
That being said, and just to make it perfectly clear, yes, the table IS working.
The error was not thrown when started from VPX but was thrown when started double clicking the table file...
So if there is any issue worth investigating is why VPX didn't throw an error when the table was started from inside VPX (either on load or load+play) and why it was thrown when double clicking the table.
But that is of interest only to a VPX developer.

Do you have "Force exclusive Fullscreen Mode" checkmarked?
You won't be able to see any errors if they pop up with that checkmarked.

Best to test the tables with that unchecked, in case of errors popping up.

But I've seen errors on other tables including the Loch Ness Monster one which is basically the same "B2S default" issue.
