Gottlieb Sure Shot (Gottlieb, 1976) restoration start

Greetings All,

I came across a Gottlieb Sure Shot sitting in a shed (it was dry but that was about it) that for the most part was unmolested. (it does have a coin mechanism bypass) It however does have quite a few issues. So against the advice of friends and colleagues (I'm pretty stubborn) I have embarked upon the restoration of this machine. I am looking for resources (manuals, troubleshooting guides etc). Any assistance whatsoever would be gratefully appreciated on this project. I am a millwright by trade so I do have some skills that will apply but have never attempted a pinball repair. I hope to put this unit into my Man Cave at some point but will have to make it work right now. Here is a list of what I think is wrong (or at least what happens when you plug it in:

the unit lights up and you hear a few relays clicking
it registers the game counter
if you press start it tries to reset the counter (currently at zero)
but no ball to the plunger and no flippers

this is just a start for me and is after I cleaned out the cabinet with dry air (cob webs)

Any suggestions on where to start?

sorry I can't seem to locate the schematics for it though

Hi...thanks for the warm welcome. I have checked out the links all have sent me and that is going to give me the work that I need to do over the next few weeks, months...years?...Anyway I will post as things happen other than the back lights coming on and almost nothing else It is fairly clean inside after some precursory poking around. It sure was a neighbourhood conversation piece after the gents in the neighbourhood saw it being unloaded. They all wandered over ....not sure if it was the beer fridge or hopes of free games....either was ok.

do all the score reels reset back to zero? and does the ball count unit in head of machine reset back to zero or ball 1 ? ball count and bonus units have sticking problems due to old and hardened grease. they must be taken apart and cleaned. pinrepair and pinwiki are both good repair sites for em repairs.
