The Family Amusement Arcade in Los Angeles

This is my main arcade. Mirror ceilings and decked in neon.
Probably the best arcade in Los Angeles, on Vermont Ave. across the street from LACC (Los Angeles City College).

Haven't been here in a couple of years, so the shot of pinball machines *might be overstated*, but in general, they always have at least 9 or ten tables up and ready to go and are open 'til 1:30 A.M. Right On!
The illumination level in the arcade pics is a little high. With the black lights,
the scene is appropriately darker in person, as should be.

Hmmm.....should be worth checking out (but so is Pins and Needles, and I haven't made it there yet, so no guarantees) and I like the off-street parking---wonder how full it is in the 9:00P-1:30A slot.

Bring coins? or buy tokens.

Unless there's been a policy change, they run on tokens.
Any night during the week should be easily accessible, and they sometimes
put out a few classics, the Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, and so on.

The picture shows a T2. And they usually have some of the new games. This was where I first played Space Shuttle, Rollergames, Diner, T2, Gilligan's Island, The Phantom of the Opera, Monopoly, and Elvis, and others when they were brand spanking new in their day.

They also have Coke machines, and there is a Jack in the Box one block south.

If you use the Metro trains, the Red Line stops at Vermont and Santa Monica Blvd. which is across the street and about three blocks north of the arcade.

Since I'm a glutton for $4/Gallon punishment, I'd be driving myself rather than 'enjoying' the scenery as we clank by (don't all trains clank?).

I guess the arcade is secondary to their rental biz, so what rotates through there could constitute quite a variety.

haven't been in a place like that for years... prolly ocean city, NJ or downtown philly 15yrs ago before all the arcades closed.

but how can it be your main joint if you haven't been there in years?

Same as, "Nobody goes there any more; it's too crowded".....just different.

Not too crowded at all. It's just that I get more from The Internet than from games these days. But every now and then you know, I might step out.

You can also park in the micro strip mall across the small side street on the same side as the arcade if the shops are closed, which they usually are after 9 or 10 P.M.

Your best bet in finding one of these gems is to look around any college or university area, or near a military base.
