Long time ago as a kid I once made an origami snap dragon with extending "jaws" from instructions.
I wasn't too involved with origami, but the one thing that I made frequently was a mini-origami box that I would then use as a package to hold a PEZ candy or something.
I did play a lot with paper, non-origami. Things like rolling up a thin strip of paper torn from a notepad sheet or use a gum wrapper to act like a spring like a plunger, or making a newspaper Christmas tree.
Or a folded paper drinking cup.
And many, many paper airplanes.
