The following is one example of what is growing increasing popular in metropolitan areas in the US; Barcades – the crossover between bars and arcades.
In Minneapolis, Minnesota is a specialty bar/pinball arcade called TILT – Pinball Bar. We paid them a quick visit.
You can probably guess their newest gameThe TILT street sign – front and backWe backed up to view TILT – Pinball Bar.
The exteriorPlay pinball hereThe front window and doorTilt is open from 11am to 2am daily. We didn’t meet with the owners, Jasha Johnston and Carrie McCabe- Johnston, however we were taken care of by our bartender/hostess/server/waitress.
Many hats wears this Gal FridayThe majority of the space is filled with pinball machines.
The front half and back half of the (mostly pinball) arcade areaThe pinballs at TILT are provided by John Galvin of D & G Amusement.
The pinball supplierDuring our visit, these were the titles available to play:
Token machinesThere is ample seating in the pinball area and a full-service bar up front.
The front seating bar and full-service bar areasAs well as beer and pop, hot dogs and sandwiches are on the menu.
Food and alcoholBesides the full-service bar selection, many different specialty local beers were available either canned or on tap.
The bar selectionMany come for the hot dogs.
The O.G.B. (onion, Gruyere & bacon) basketThe bar-top is even made from backlit old pinball playfields.
An actual lit pinball playfield bar-topBack to the reason we visited; pinball, of course! Though we didn’t participate, the owners run both a pinball league and tournament. The league is six weeks long. The tournament is held the last Sunday of every month.
League and tournament announcementsThere are unisex and dedicated bathrooms. The inside of the men’s bathroom is decorated with a pinball theme.
Men, mixed & womenTILT is not some seedy, dimly-lit, backstreet pinball dive bar. It is modern, airy and clean with specialty local crafted beers at expected prices, centrally-located in midtown Minneapolis.  With the many new and premium pinball titles, we will be sure to visit again soon.
