inflation, UAW strikes, constant rising costs of materials, labor and operations for 100yrs.
cars and the automotive industry is now way over engineered, way to complicated nightmares on wheels.
here is an article i found on the web when i was searching for 'why automakers keep pushing failed inovation us'

the owner went to 3 three different mechanics and nobody could find it.
turns out the high pressure direct injection fuel pump has failed....omg, gimme a break

mechanics are quiting because of the over engineering, low pay and high pressure.
mechanics need to keep going to school at their own cost out of pocket to keep up with the automakers
and their wonderful ideas..

here is another nightmare.
customer refused to fix it.
at 110,000 miles both twin turbos on a V6 need to be replaced.
the job is 10-12 hours at @$5000 maybe more to tear it down to do the job.
the mechanics will probably find more things wrong when they tear it down....
the car value is only maybe $6k...
the mechanics won't do it unless you do both turbos because the other is probably not too far behind for failure.
automakers are using V6 with turbos because they can put out a lot of power with the turbos and cheaper to produce than the V8.

General Motors does not make any cars for righthand drive markets.
Yes, we can buy a Ford, and a handful of Mustangs are on the roads, the biggest selling Fords are made in Asia

can we get back to the thread of
A) what is goin' on with auto makers everywhere,
B) why cars are over engineered and not worth fixing because of high costs of parts and depreciation
i think we know this one...automakers don't want us fixing our own cars anymore.
C) and the insane inflation and over priced new trucks.
my first car was a 68olds cultass S for $350....very used but ran ok....350engine 2bb carb and 2speed auto trans.
man i drove the hell outta that car....gas was 80cents...$5 dollars got me over 5gallons and brought the needle
off of empty to 1/4 tank.....
then i had a 63 chevy 1/2 ton for a little while with a 4speed then a 65 el camino with a 4spd
i remember cal worthington.....look at those prices...you could get a used car for $1500.

i was goin to let it go but i think it needs to be said.
maybe most car owners didn't take the time to learn their car and how to check the oil and fluids and how to maintain it.
they get in everyday, turn the key and drive it for weeks and maybe months never checking the oil, water, transmission fluid, brake fluid, belts and hoses and tire pressure...when the dash panel lights start flashing it's too late.

a lot of new cars have panel gauges that tell you exactly what the engine coolent and transmission temp is, oil pressure, voltage etc....even with the better gauges in their face a lot don't pay attention to them.
make sure the gauges are working.....when cruisin down the interstate scan the gauges often.
