And how do you know the direction by looking at the picture?

Bonus points if you can identify the exact direction.

Last time I went to Atlantic City that tall building next to the convention center had the playboy logo on it... And I probably had dinner with my parents on the pier the picture was taken from.

Is this a game or are you asking for help finding where the picture was taken from? If it's a game I'll let someone else have a go.

Oh, by the way, that building had a short life, Started around 1982 as the Playboy casino, then Atlantis, then Trump something, then Trump something else, then Trump something third time since his casino licence was pulled, then demolished somewhere around 2000...

Taken from the north looking south. I know this because Atlantic City is on the East Coast, so you are looking at the Atlantic Ocean, which would be east.

It was an observation I made about compass direction, so I thought I would phrase it as a game. It works as the same process I use to navigate around town or elsewhere without using a map.
I'm sorry I couldn't phrase the question clearer.

Can anyone tell what the compass cross-directions are?

If you want to be more accurate the coast in NJ in that area is on a general NE to SW line. Also going by the shadows that picture must have been taken in the early afternoon (east sides of the buildings still in sun but practically no shadows on the west sides), in very late spring or early summer when the sun is farthest north. Otherwise even at noon there would be shadows on the north sides of the buildings.

Going into Google earth, the angle of the picture would be 250 to 255 degrees, depending on how far out on the pier it was taken from.
