RE: Re: RE: White Water V1.1 (PD) Released
I fired up my proxy server tonight and visited VPF (read only) and saw the release thread there. There is much more support there, and it makes sense, as it is a VPM forum foremost.
There were exactly the same observations there though about the speed, and the flippers and such, so I hope you don't think I was making this up just to annoy you. I am angry at you, and I think every one should be, but it is a fine table. It is my opinion though that you can have more realistic shaped flippers with the correct start and end to the swing. It was also confirmed by you that the ramps artificially alter the ball speed. I'm not sure about that, but I think that could be avoided, or at least done better, and I have already pointed out that I could tell. I have played around with ramps a lot and have never had to do that, I use pinch points if I need and they serve well and look realistic, are realistic. POTO uses nothing but ramps, and very complicated ramps at that and if made well as they are there is no need for such things.
It's just a few issues and you always said that you don't want to hear just praise and uneducated brown nosing, or how ever you put it. However there is much more that is fantastic about this release. Your ramps are killer 'Dude, and that is an educated observation, I would not glad hand or stroke you, you know that. I think you are stuck in a rut as far as flippers go. I agree that they could never be perfect, but I do think they could be much better. I have played this table in real life. It was ran down but the flow was there. I am not joking when I say this is off when compared to the real table, but I could not explain exactly what it needs, it's just a general flow thing.
I strive to be realistic, as you do, but I have always said that this is a computer game in the end, and that is what I judge them by for the most part. That is what should be foremost in this craft, so all those things that we see that does not compare with a real one does not matter, It may not be possible to make it realistic, but I will work on it, as I do every table I want to keep. I'll let you know of the improvements I can come up with. Of course the first thing would be the flippers, I don't care how the debate turns on those, they are wrong, in shape, size, swing, and speed. Therefore it would only work with my core, and the others out there like it, it will be of no value to you.
Very nice job. As far as ramps go, this is the best work you have done.
