I've released V1.1 of White Water here:

http://pinballnirvana.com/Pacdude/files/

Changes in V1.1:
============

- Ambient light adjusted on center playfield

- GI light added to right of center ramp

- Kickback adjusted for better behavior with balls traveling up the drain area

- Fix put in place for balls falling off the Disaster Drop ramp and locking game once in awhile

- Skill shot adjusted to behave like ball is going downhill after the Bigfoot Cave on the skill ramp

It's a beauty and that's a fact :)

Yeah, it looks swell, why don't you let me have that room (graphic backdrop) so I can put my bowler in there?

Do we need to update our core.vbs files with this table?

How the hell are you?

If you needed to update your core, the table would have told you so with a version ERROR.

And yeah, I'm going to give a complete asshole who told me to go fuck myself and die a backdrop to use....

Thanks. It fades to black at the bottom just like I need and the wall pattern is just what I had in mind. I will have to mod the floor and move the wall back a bit, but you how it is having to do all that crap from scratch. You can just attach it and i will grab it up.

I could just put a wall over your table and give it that graphic and and take a snapshot, but it won't look as good, and I will put your name on it and credit you with it, if I have to go that route.

Come on, give it up.

I'll leave you alone if you do. :shh:

I hate to interrupt again, this smattering of kudos you are getting for this work, but damn, this is too fast. Have you really played a WW table?

When?

PacDude. we appreciate the work do to maintain the core and support files. We really do. We also appreciate the work you do to supply you favorite tables, which because of the quality, become some of our favorite tables. You have gotten a lot better with your attitude with VP and its members, and you seemed to have lost a lot of your 'holier than thou' demeanor. You find yourself on the top, after all your hard work, you advance the state of the art continually. Why is it, do you think, that you would have a release thread, and have just the, as I called it, smattering, and I think that term is generous here, of 'at a boys' and 'nice' and such comments that you claim to despise but which we all know you love so?
Be more of a team player, and not chastise someone for pointing out what they like about them. Put the fix back in PacDude. Keep your name off of it. Keep my name off of it. We, as a group decided this, don't you remember?

RE: Re: RE: White Water V1.1 (PD) Released

I was being facetious. I guess I shouldn't be surprised you couldn't figure that out, seeing as how far out of touch with the real world you seem to be.

And yeah, I have played White Water for real many times. As someone pointed out on VPF, mine is actually a bit slow compared to many real machines in mint condition.

RE: Re: RE: White Water V1.1 (PD) Released

What? mint what? Mint? I was being that thing too, that facetious thing. VPF? wtf did you have to go and do that for? let me give you a piece of advice. You can not always believe what you read there. Generally, yes, the ball will roll, yes it will, but the ramps are not as fast as you have them.

RE: Re: RE: White Water V1.1 (PD) Released

No, they're faster.

RE: Re: RE: White Water V1.1 (PD) Released

I played your game, PacDude, I know it is is slow, good grief. the flippers are too shallow and stubby and don't work very well. The ball's speed is artificial on the ramps, or it just seems that way to me, the thing is a chore to play. It's the least fun of all, imo.

RE: Re: RE: White Water V1.1 (PD) Released

(yawn)

RE: Re: RE: White Water V1.1 (PD) Released

It's so sexy when you do that!

RE: Re: RE: White Water V1.1 (PD) Released

I fired up my proxy server tonight and visited VPF (read only) and saw the release thread there. There is much more support there, and it makes sense, as it is a VPM forum foremost.

There were exactly the same observations there though about the speed, and the flippers and such, so I hope you don't think I was making this up just to annoy you. I am angry at you, and I think every one should be, but it is a fine table. It is my opinion though that you can have more realistic shaped flippers with the correct start and end to the swing. It was also confirmed by you that the ramps artificially alter the ball speed. I'm not sure about that, but I think that could be avoided, or at least done better, and I have already pointed out that I could tell. I have played around with ramps a lot and have never had to do that, I use pinch points if I need and they serve well and look realistic, are realistic. POTO uses nothing but ramps, and very complicated ramps at that and if made well as they are there is no need for such things.

It's just a few issues and you always said that you don't want to hear just praise and uneducated brown nosing, or how ever you put it. However there is much more that is fantastic about this release. Your ramps are killer 'Dude, and that is an educated observation, I would not glad hand or stroke you, you know that. I think you are stuck in a rut as far as flippers go. I agree that they could never be perfect, but I do think they could be much better. I have played this table in real life. It was ran down but the flow was there. I am not joking when I say this is off when compared to the real table, but I could not explain exactly what it needs, it's just a general flow thing.

I strive to be realistic, as you do, but I have always said that this is a computer game in the end, and that is what I judge them by for the most part. That is what should be foremost in this craft, so all those things that we see that does not compare with a real one does not matter, It may not be possible to make it realistic, but I will work on it, as I do every table I want to keep. I'll let you know of the improvements I can come up with. Of course the first thing would be the flippers, I don't care how the debate turns on those, they are wrong, in shape, size, swing, and speed. Therefore it would only work with my core, and the others out there like it, it will be of no value to you.

Very nice job. As far as ramps go, this is the best work you have done.

RE: Re: RE: White Water V1.1 (PD) Released

The only speed altering on the ramps (save the skill shot one) is to check the ball speed and if it's below the threshold for making it all the way around the ramp (it would/should eventually come back down in that case), it simply stops the ball immediately and gives it a small push back down the other way. This is simply to keep the ball from STOPPING for a second or two on the ramps, which is when it tends to fall OFF the connecting points (think ball through flipper on a ramp joint). There are no triggers to accelerate the ball on the ramps or such things (save the skill shot ramp which is programmed to behave like it's going downhill past the cave when it's not due to VP physics making it impossible to do properly otherwise).

So the ramp flow is completely normal in the game save balls that would not make it around anyway (I measured the speeds using a test setup with a kicker for that purpose so I'd know what minimal speeds to check for).

As for general flow, I think it flows extremely well for a VPM table. I can loop the left ramp several times in a row if neccessary, even. It may not be exact to real aiming, but no public VP table is (barring Ultrapin's corrected system).

RE: Re: RE: White Water V1.1 (PD) Released

Well I'll see if I can fix that while I'm fixing the rest. I'd bet that I can. You game?

RE: Re: RE: White Water V1.1 (PD) Released

I'll leave it to the staff to deal with you from now on.

RE: Re: RE: White Water V1.1 (PD) Released

No doubt. As stupid as this fucking staff is, they will probably call them 'unauthorized'.
