World Beauties
I have a 1959 Gottlieb World Beauties that I have never had any trouble with.
My father gave it to me when I was 13, I'm 59 now.

Just started locking up on start up.
Makes a loud grinding sound. Will not go through start up routine.

There is a little metal bar that looks like it should hit the bell on start up.
It sits there about half way up and vibrates. Seems to be where the noise is coming from.

Can not get anyone to come out and fix it.
Guess I am going to learn about fixing old pinballs.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Byron

My first guess is your score motor is not moving. Is it, a bad contact, stuck, jammed or motor failure? Try advancing it (gently) by hand and see what happens/changes. This can be done with the game powered on or off. There are a lot of variables at this stage. Let us know what happens...C_S

Thanks, I will do that as soon as I get home from work tonight.
Appreciate your help.

Acting up

I assume the bar in the circle is the score motor.
When you gently nudge it, it sluggishly moves along till it gets to the end.
The little metal bar that is supposed to ring the bell then goes about halfway up and rattles like crazy.

Thanks

Nice photos. That large stepping gadget does advance the scoring lights in the back box. The unit I'm wondering about is in the cabinet under your playfield. It it has a grey metal disc and several stacks of switches around it.

That wheel seems to move freely and vigorously
Little sparks at the connections.

That unit rotates during scoring and resetting the machine. It has home position(s) where it rests after completing it's last task. With the power on and you start it in motion it should move to it's next rest point and stop. Have you seen it move under it's motor power?

Hey "BDC" , This is a great place to read up on EM do's . And important Do not's ( I always advise reading about where not to lube, hint> It's almost everywhere<). I have been re-reading this stuff tonight and getting plenty interesting info.

Yes, it moves under its own power to the next station.
Thanks for the reference.

Well I guess the next thing to do is figure out if the machine resets or trying to complete a reset. I wish I could read the schematic for your game but Gottlieb's legacy owners have selfishly/greedily prevented that. So not knowing your ball count mech. or how those steppers reset or signal reset complete ... Not going to be much help. I would manually get them to their reset positions and see what happens. The age and fact you mentioned sluggish may mean cleaning, proper lube in proper places. I'm not sure why that bell solenoid is grumbling. It makes me wonder if you have a voltage issue. So do check the 24 Volt(probably) circuits . That game does not have a rectifier in it, does it?

I am afraid I am too ignorant of these machines to be of much help.
Ordered a book on Amazon about repair. Will also read the reference you sent.
Will repost when I know enough to discuss it semi-intelligently.

The good news is I do have the schematic. It came with the machine.

Thanks for your help. Will get back to you when I am smarter.

Thanks,
Byron

B2S server.exe Version 2.5.0.320 How can you make the B2SDMD stay on Visible. Make it the default instead of hidden. Did new install of 10.8 final have many tables I would have to open to change to visible instead of hidden. Any help would be much appreciated.

@ejrcooney Try right clicking on backglass with mouse pointer, and you should see B2S DMD Visibility setting at top of window.
